Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Friendly reminder: when commenting about a news event, especially something that just happened, please provide a source of some kind. While ideally this would be on nitter or archived, any source is preferable to none at all given.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is still Palestine, though we will switch next week to a new country.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The weekly (biweekly?) update is here.

Links and Stuff

The bulletins site is down.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Add to the above list if you can.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Last week's discussion post.

From Gaza now: Mosques are the only means of communication through speakers. "We have no communication with the outside world. They are using their military might to harm us. We have no power but the power of God, no one but God. Please, pray for us."

vide/audio - https://video.twimg.com/amplify_video/1718017424791126016/vid/avc1/320x564/lT1ioFspvtCwEsmS.mp4?tag=14

I've never heard anything coming out of a minaret speaker but the call to prayer. In Gaza, they are [sending] an SOS to a silent world.

Rules based international order! A tale of two votes

Condemning Russia:

Calling for a Humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza:

The UN Secretary-General called for a humanitarian ceasefire (the bare minimum, really). The US and Israel among other western countries are against it.

We already knew the rules based world is complete bullshit, here's yet more proof that the western power elite is as morally corrupt as they come.

When I think about protecting the security of the United States and the world, I am clear-eyed. One of our defining missions is to strengthen the international rules-based order — to defend it, to promote it, and to build on it.

The absolute gall of these fuckers.

Thousands rally in Chile in support of the Palestinian people

Thousands of people gathered on Thursday in Chile’s capital Santiago to rally in support of Gaza.

The country has the largest Palestinian diaspora community outside of the Middle East.

that's actually really interesting, Chile has that many Palestinians??

IDF tanks are storming Gaza from all eastern and northern directions. A major battle is currently taking place in the area of the separation fence.

Darkest Speaker election timeline:

  • No speaker is elected for months
  • Government shuts down
  • Biden gets Congress to agree that military spending is national security and that they can vote on it without a speaker
  • This becomes the norm and any non military spending is forever halted because there is never another Speaker
  • All new laws are exclusively Executive Orders

the date is 10/26/23, we are hearing about another 1/10th of a 9/11 occurring in Maine. There have been 30 or so 9/11's since 10/7/23 in Israel alone. Over 100 9/11's since this past 9/11. Even more if you were to count Palestinians. When will the 9/11's themselves wake up to their own 9/11? Every moment has become a worse tragedy since the last 9/11 and every 9/12 before me looks to become another 9/11 stretching into the abyss. Infinite, recursive 9/11. An inescapable cataclysm in which we are all embodied in the large, jet-fuel-drenched towers, suffocating amongst the melted steel beams. An infinite number of passenger jets are crashing into an endless expanse of financial headquarters. I am born each day at 8:46 AM. The world is watching. I die each morning at 10:28 AM as the North Tower collapse before me. The world grieves for me, but I only crave more blood. I open my eyes and I am born again. The date is still 9/11 liberty-weeping

Ukrainian Rezident channel claims Zelensky is furious at Biden’s egregious $100B aid package because it’s too large as to be realistic and appears more a deliberate virtue signal or token attempt at help:

Ukrainian channel Rezident: Our source in the Office of the President said that the Office of the President considers the actions of the Biden Administration destructive regarding financial support for Ukraine for 2024. Instead of a realistic relief package for our country, the White House is asking for record amounts that will definitely be blocked by the Republicans. All these actions are aimed at disrupting financial and military assistance to Ukraine in order to agree with the Kremlin to freeze the conflict in our country along the front line.

So the stabbed in the back theory being floated here is that Biden is hoping his big bazooka funding request for Ukraine will fail so he can wash his hands of the blame. That he intentionally made a proposal the house republicans won’t accept.

The Speaker needs to be non-binary.

Iraq base with US troops again targeted by rockets: Report

Citing two security sources, the Reuters news agency says two rockets landed inside Ain al-Asad air base, which hosts US and other international forces west of Baghdad.

US officials have said the base is among several in Iraq and Syria that have been targeted amid the conflict in Gaza.

It was not immediately clear who was behind the most recent attack or if there were any injuries, although top US diplomat Blinken earlier today broadly blamed recent attacks on US targets in the region on “Iran proxies”.

A Pentagon spokesman is expected to hold a news briefing later this afternoon; We will bring you more information about this when we have it.

from Al Jazeera. this is new I think sicko-yes

Pentagon confirms 21 US personnel injured in attacks on Iraq, Syria bases

US Central Command has told Al Jazeera that the US personnel “received minor injuries due to drone attacks at Al Assad Airbase, Iraq and Al-Tanf Garrison, Syria” from October 17 to 18.

”All members returned to duty,” the Department of Defense command said in a statement.

Bases housing US personnel in Iraq and Syria have come under repeated attacks since the beginning of the Irael-Hamas war, raising the prospect of the US being pulled into the conflict.

Earlier this week, Blinken said: “if Iran or its proxies attack US personnel anywhere, make no mistake: We will defend our people, we will defend our security – swiftly and decisively.”

none dead sicko-wistful

Tank, Artillery & Jets all pounding the Gaza strip from all directions right now as we speak, a Gaza channel says it's total confusion right now as to what's unfolding.

Today, the top Israeli commander for the occupied West Bank, Brigadier General Avi Bluth, in a meeting with secular leaders, said that ‘we have now taken our gloves off in our war with Hamas in Judea and Samaria’ – that’s how Israel describes the occupied West Bank.

He went on to say we’re going to see more offensive operations to cleanse – in his words – ‘terrorists nests’ like we saw being done in the Nur Shams camp. I’m referring to a raid last week by the Israeli military on that camp – 14 people were killed, including two children aged 10 years old.

they're going to 'cleanse' ~~cockroach nests~~ terrorist nests. totally not fascists btw.

In more fascist infighting news, look at how Charlie Kirk had to carefully thread the needle in order to not have his audience split between "I hate Jews more than Arabs" and "I hate Arabs more than Jews" factions: https://nitter.cz/charliekirk11/status/1716471746063466882. It's extremely telling he waited until today to even address the church bombing.

The head of the World Health Organization said the agency had lost touch with its staff in Gaza, as well as its health facilities, health workers and the rest of its humanitarian partners on the ground. “This siege makes me gravely concerned for their safety and the immediate health risks of vulnerable patients,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director general of the W.H.O., wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

I guess we're at the "collateral damage" phase of the war.

I heard the phrase for the first time on American tv news ~1 minute ago.

Israeli media: Initial report about a soldier who was captured during Israeli army activity in the Bureij camp in Gaza!

Confirmed in Israeli media, at least 1 soldier was captured by Hamas during this operation.

Various westerners are coming to terms with technology not actually being a magic element that makes one side invincible.

Chuds but I think the fact they're discussing something we've all been saying for years is notable.

Footage shows crowds, displaced people at threathened al-Quds Hospital

Aerial footage of al-Quds Hospital shows significant gathering of displaced individuals seeking refuge in the hospital’s courtyards.

Hospital authorities report receiving five warnings from the Israeli army, with warnings that the premises will be bombed imminently. The hospital is located in Tal al-Hawa, in Gaza City, and affiliated with the Palestinian Red Crescent. Hundreds of citizens have flocked to the hospital as it continues to admit victims of the ongoing Israeli bombardment in Gaza.

The footage, shot hours before the Israeli threats and obtained by Al Jazeera on Sunday, also reveal the presence of ambulances and medical teams stationed at the hospital’s entrance. The hospital is sheltering 12,000 displaced civilians, with a majority being children and women.

Sounds like a misfired PIJ rocket is going to go off soon, why would the PIJ do this thonk

Guatemala is trying to pull another Arbenz, except this guy is more like Bernie than Arbenz. The US is actually supportive of the president-elect this time around. It's probably because his foreign policy isn't that much different from Boric's in Chile. Very anti-Russia, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. He seems to want more trade with China though while still wishing to recognize Taiwan.

Lula has also thrown in his support. The guy may not be the most radical, but it's nice to see a somewhat left-wing candidate in our country get some international support over the right-wing.
