Of course it's natural meaning it's evolutionary, what the fuck else do people imagine?

Is it something like: I'm pretty sure it's not natural, it's them liberals and their chem trails.
That's insane, people who believe anything remotely close to that are literally insane.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

They're not insane.

They're the product of 7 decades of eroding education quality in the US, combined with a daily brainwash from fox news. Then add the American exceptionalism, the arrogance, and you have the Magas who believe this shit and are willing to ~~die~~ kill for it

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

So you are saying that because it's environmental it is not insane? And how do you arrive at that logic?
If people behave insane, because they hold and practice beliefs that are harmful to themselves, their family and society as a whole, they are literally insane, because they are delusional.
If a cult gets the (insane) idea to all jump off a 500 meter high cliff so they all die, it is still insane if they were indoctrinated to believe they would have eternal life by doing it through generations?
Whether they believe their delusions are true because of indoctrination or a psychosis is irrelevant when the result is the same.
Fanatic Christians are LITERALLY insane.

Conservatives:

  • change: scary
  • complexity: confusing (scary)
  • amydala: enlarged*
  • grey matter: reduced*
  • lead: delicious

Impact in this scenario: gay different. Gay scary. Only straight - no other. Gay wrong. Read study hard. Consider thoughts hard. Listen YouTube easy - confirm gay wrong, confirm gay scary. Make feel smart.

This is an overstatement of course, but yeah. Empathy and learning are hard, and you can pretty much count on people taking the easy path most of the time, so cons will always look for an easy out. Solutions are improved education and fact checks, rigorous reporting and broadcasting laws, and anything you can do to make things that are different less 'scary' to cons. As you will no doubt be thinking: none of that is what the current US govt and conservative leadership are doing, they are utterly captured by grifters who hijack their fear 24-7 to keep them in line with their causes and to keep them easily manipulated, and attack any groups doing the opposite.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

This is an overstatement of course

Not so much, it is more a generalization, and the degree may vary, but at the core there is truth to this. These are people who refuse the facts of reality, which is why the saying that reality has a liberal bias is not just a joke. But the fact is that Republicans discard reality in favor of their delusions. While the sane adjust their views according to reality.

Religious fanaticism = insanity.
It should not be treated as normal in a civilized society.

Edit:
Sorry I misplaced the response, it was supposed to be to the u/thenoirwolfess comment.

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

As Richard Dawkins points out, the fanatics are also l victims, they've been indoctricinated all their life.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I respect Richard Dawkins very much, and he is right to some degree. But there comes a point where the evidence is so clear, and the delusion so out of touch with reality, that we have to consider that people also have free will¹. The problem is that people are WILLINGLY staying within their delusions, and when that becomes the case, it is no different from insanity.

¹ Regarding free will this is a question I've studied very carefully, and my conclusion is clear, that we have free will within the limits of our understanding of reality and our physical abilities and requirements, and this free will does NOT require a god or a soul. The idea of a soul is completely made up nonsense with absolutely zero evidence or even indication of being true. Free will is possible within the restraints of a reality guided by physical laws, and has nothing to do with the uncertainty principles of quantum mechanics.

[–] edible_funk@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah but all it takes to break the veil is literally any amount of critical thinking whatsoever.

[–] leftzero@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 days ago

what the fuck else do people imagine

A satanic liberal communist conspiracy to destroy the sacred christian American Way of Life, and to sap and impurify their precious bodily fluids, obviously.

It's even making them fantasize about unnatural acts, that's how bad it is.

Closet? No, no, that's for the guns.

[–] a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They imagine exactly what you believe. They tell themselves that it is a strictly human thing, which allows them to frame it as a choice--one that they can judge as morally wrong.

Sexuality, gender expression, etc.--all are dismissible through profound ignorance.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

And the idea that it is a choice can only come from bisexuals.
That should be pointed out EVERY fucking time someone makes that claim.

I think you are attempting to inject far too much reason into bigotry. I think the only people who find it internally consistent are themselves.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Only for bisexuals is it a choice whether they are with a man or a woman.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 2 points 1 day ago

Ah, I gotcha. Thanks.

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yet another example of how reality has a liberal bias.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Yes it's fucking scary how people in a cult can be so disconnected from reality and evidence.
It doesn't matter if the cult is religious or political, for both their cult fantasy is more important than reality!

“It’s not natural!” -found in nature- “We aren’t animals!”

[–] HisArmsOpen@crust.piefed.social 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

I know a few people whose heads will spin around and fall off if they read this. Have shared the link to a couple of work groups, for fun and my own entertainment

[–] BlindFrog@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's whose, btw
Sry for any derailment, I can delete my comment later

[–] HisArmsOpen@crust.piefed.social 3 points 17 hours ago

Good spot, thanks. No need to delete

[–] blackbearjesus27@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But wait, someone here was literally just telling me today that no one in his family is gay because he enforces good morals and that’s all you need since homosexuality isn’t scientifically real.

Lmao

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca -3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Are you suggesting chimps are moral?

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Those are some moral poop flingers, let me tell ya.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (3 children)

The resulting findings indicate that same-sex behavior is more common when animals need social cohesion to deal with harsh environmental conditions, when they’re at high risk of being eaten or when competition for resources is more intense. It’s also more common in social groups with strict hierarchies, where sex could help individuals manage competition, build alliances and avoid intergroup aggression.

Interesting.

[–] svcg@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago

So, navy rules. Gotcha.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Are you saying all we need to bring the world together is copious amounts of gay sex?

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 2 points 2 days ago

I think it's saying copious sex regardless of the parties' genitalia.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 2 points 2 days ago

Sounds a lot like how and why women and girls tend to have homosexual relationships in prison. (I specify gender because that's what I have more knowledge of.)

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

i'm too lazy to read more than the headline...this kinda seems like researchers missing the tree for the forest.

could it be that sex just feels good, and the majority of apes really don't have social relationships complex enough for gay/straight to have any meaning whatsoever?

a hole is a hole

this kinda seems like how researchers hide all the animal rape that goes on, because it's "icky" for humans (penguins and dolphins especially, it seems)

[–] wabafee@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Lol evolution making us gay

[–] gnuplusmatt@reddthat.com 5 points 2 days ago

risk of being eaten

yeah they were

[–] leftzero@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

Cue ”libruls are turning the monkeys gay with satanic 5G vaccines!!1!” headlines in 3, 2, 1...
