What an incredibly absurd and unpredictable situation. It's hard to say who is in the more precarious position, her or Trump.

[–] D1re_W0lf@piefed.social 105 points 2 weeks ago

Her. It’s her head that might go off next. For Trump is just Monday.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 29 points 2 weeks ago

One of them has the world's largest economy and military at their command and the other is literally in a room that the last guy guy kidnapped from.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

Considering she's in charge because the USA simply kidnapped her boss, I'd say her.

[–] trollercoaster@sh.itjust.works 69 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Puppet government forgot how 2 puppet already?

[–] MrMakabar@slrpnk.net 44 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

She is a hardcore Communist. Her father was a guerilla leader in the Venezuelan jungle. It was obvious to anybody, that she would betray Trump at the first oppurtunity. However being able to sell oil to the US and pay some money to Trump directly via some Qatari payment scheme is still much better then having full blown sanctions on Venezuela. Rodriguez is also a realists and understands that this is actually an oppurtunity to strengthen the country, if it is played smartly.

Everyone betrays Trump in the end. He must feel like a tragic hero.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What did she agree to that she would be betraying?

[–] bufalo1973@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe nothing. But...

[–] Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago

Not really. This is as basic as governments get. She says this for her base and people but also is doing what America wants behind the scene. Come on guys. Is this your first government or what?

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 46 points 2 weeks ago

Wannabee dictator does not like taking orders. Applies to both Donny and Delcy.

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 39 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Here come the bombs again then.....

Never, ever accept help from MAGA. That is your lesson.

[–] detren@sh.itjust.works 25 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

She didn’t. You’re confusing the acting president with the woman that won the Nobel prize. They’re different people.

[–] justastranger@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] brendansimms@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

may or may not be true. the source is 'four sources involved at high levels', which does not inspire confidence, especially if those are americans with a vested interest in the Venezuelan people turning on Rodriguez so that they can easily install their own person if need be.

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

Shit you're absolutely right. I mean I know they're two different people, but I absolutely mixed them up.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Well, yeah, it was pretty obvious that Trump did not control Venezuela since he has no troops on the ground.

He's just been threathening the current Venezuelan leadership with personally getting the same fate as Maduro, but that's not at all the same as controlling the actual country.

No amount of struting like some prized rooster by Trump on this (like he does for just about everything just before he TACOes) alters the reality that a special ops kidnapping isn't anywhere near the same level of military commitment as an invasion and at most will deliver chaos rather than control.

[–] ClamDrinker@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Not to mention, Trump essentially has to keep that military force ready at all times to keep the pressure, or pull it away from other places he's threatening, like Iran. By the time the fleet is back on it's way Rodríguez just has to play nice for a while again and eventually mother nature, midterms, or whatever form it will take, will take care of Trump.

[–] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

It’s not even going to cause chaos. The country was functioning as usual within hours of Maduro’s kidnapping because support for the Bolivaran revolution is incredibly high and the project has created a horizontal distribution of power to help working Venezuelans hold political power.

[–] rozodru@piefed.social 19 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Venezuela speed running propped up puppet government I guess. Usually took other countries a lot longer to get to this point. CIA is slacking.

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well here in the US we've been speedrunning Germany in the 1930s, so it tracks that the places we fuck up and try to control would also be speedrunning their own thing.

[–] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

We don’t need to speed run another country, the United States’ founding ideology is that the genocide of an entire continent is a good thing.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

I think Trump assumed he'd already set up a puppet government. He made a deal with the VP, she got bumped up to president when Trump took out her boss. So, she's a puppet, right? But, it doesn't seem like she ever had any intention of becoming a puppet, and Trump has no leverage to force her.

[–] homes@piefed.world 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Looks like Miss Nobel prize might have another crack at the office

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 22 points 2 weeks ago

He hates it when you call him that you know.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I know who's getting kidnapped next!

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

Gosh I hope it's me >:3

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Wait, I thought Trump was their president now. He must have realized he can't kidnap himself.

[–] altkey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago

It was a brilliant, tremendous kidnapping, I aced it! That's why they left me in my place.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

Strong mission accomplished vibes

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 2 points 2 weeks ago

Standard procedure, have someone to blame in place.

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I haven't known this woman long but all I have seen so far is her saying one thing and doing another.

She says she isn't going to just be a US lackey, but her actions sure show she is.

Best thing she can do is tell Trump to F off, and follow up actions with it.

[–] Thor_Whale@lemmus.org 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Trumplestiltskin probably wants her to pay for his Gaza hotel scheme. So the money won't go to him directly it'll go to his satanic son-in-law Jared the Antichrist kushner. So it'll never touch Trump's hands it'll just touch by proxy. As long as he gets a penthouse with a view of the Mediterranean and a view of whatever golf course he puts there he'll be as happy as a fat pig

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Trump is the antichirst in this. After all he has all these people wearing those hats with his mark of the beast on them that they voluntarily wear on their foreheads.

[–] e8CArkcAuLE@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

and convert their foreign currency exchanges to $TRUMP, build a few TRUMP hotel and resort complexes and lease all of the mayor ports and pipelines to the US…

[–] MagnificentSteiner@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago

as she works to unite the country

LMAO

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Ofcourse she has to say that unless she wants a civil war on her hands. So she is going to act all tough and defiant.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

Krasnov and Delcy share a lot in common, especially the dictator bit. Go to hell, both of you.

[–] TrivialBetaState@sopuli.xyz -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What is she complaining about? All the countries in the world have been taking and following orders from the US for the last 75 years and have been happy about it. They don't like offensive comments from the current president. But orders? Just give us more!

[–] mlg@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

"This is totally unacceptable. Venezuela would never take threats and orders from the United States. We maintain our sovereignty against such an audacious adversary. Anyway in unrelated news, we are opening up the oil industry to privatization to help stir the economy. I can assure you this idea was 100% of our own making and has absolutely nothing to do with American demands."

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

lololololol

These dumb bastards always, always think 'he'll never turn on me!' despite literal decades of evidence to the contrary.
