#TheInternetNamesAnimals was my favorite viral Twitter trend. Remember the danger noodle?

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

I still remember danger noodles.

I do not like the cobra chicken. :)

We do concerts at the arboretum in Pasadena during summers, and there's a bunch of Drag Turkeys that live there.

Fits well alongside "cobra chicken" as an alternate name for my country's national bird.

I still love that. Like... y'know... man has a point. Name fits really well. lol

We get them for migration down here in Virginia. Maybe because I didn't grow up around here and maybe because I haven't had to deal with them too closely, but I love 'em.

That's an "On-bird" actually.

Other animals with weird names here:

Raccoon - Wash bear.

Squid/octopus - Ink fish

Polar bear - Ice bear

Tarsius - Ghost animal

Anteater - Ant tramp

So many weird animals.

Issue is: this isn’t a thing, but an animal. Shouldn’t we ask the animal what it calls itself?

[–] LSNLDN@slrpnk.net 4 points 12 hours ago

The animal: “KAWAAAAAAA”

I like it, but it's a little long. What about a Fan fowl?

[–] egrets@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

Our best guess at the meaning of peacock / peahen is "chicken that goes PAWA!", which, if you've ever spent a night in a place that keeps them, is also very fitting.

the pea cock sounds unimpressive indeed

[–] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 0 points 15 hours ago
