I’m glad the Bagent talk can finally come to a rest, we seen what QB controversy can do to a someone’s confidence like last year with Zappe and Jones. Not a dig at Bagent, it’s insane you’re playing on SNF and you went to a D2 school. I hope he develops into a solid QB2 which is a super valuable resource in this game. I want to see fields back and ball out so we can have some reassurance he’s our guy, this is mostly cope because I don’t want to get another QB and go through a bad rookie year till we ruin him lol
Chicago Bears
Hiring anyone this off-season not named Ben Johnson or Shane Waldron is a failure.
This game once again proved we need to fire the entire coaching staff no matter who our QB is next year. We constantly look outmatched and this was against a Chargers team who has their own coach that constantly looks outmatched. At this point i think the only coach who Eberflus can outcoach is the great Josh McDaniels (at least when he is throwing out 2 backup QBs). And with how bad this season has looked, on top of last season i think Kevin Warren may be thinking of firing Poles as well. Poles looks lost every time the camera shows him.
It can't understated how bad this coaching staff is. The Bears spent tons of resources and draft picks on defense and they ARE WORSE THAN THE HISTORICALLY BAD UNIT LAST YEAR. I refuse to believe the biggest contributor to that is a talent issue. There is zero reason this team shouldn't be at least somewhat competitive. The Arizona Cardinals are bad but at least competitive with lesser talent. I hope for Field's sake he is traded from this garbage organization, and we have a full reset this next year. Watching last night's game truly highlights how much of an organizational failure this team is. No QB would thrive under this team, especially a developing QB. I am hoping for a full reset next year, new QB, coach, and GM.
The defensive line is really bad.... however Eberflus is also not good at figuring out how to scheme up pressure.
I agree we shouldn't be this bad....The giants don't have many sacks either - but their defense doesn't look like this.
I would be upset if I had expectations for that game. It was a “come back to earth” moment for us after how badly the raiders played. Forreal the raiders were just so awful
But nah Bagent looked like a rookie - better than a D2 rookie - but a rookie still. He can be a QB2 but we need Justin back to really see what we have
I’m not tryna sound like an ass but haven’t we seen what Justin can do the past 3 years? He’s good against really bad teams and against good teams he’s not all that good. I think it’s time for us to move on next year as much as I want jf1 to be the man. Unless he comes back with a vengeance then let’s waste out top picks on good players
He’s literally played less than 2 seasons wtf are you talking about?
Right when I thought the Bears were starting to look like an actually competent football team, they go out and do what they did last night. By competent, I mean limiting pre-snap infractions, making tackles, playing a clean game, catching the ball, etc.
I'm glad stuff like Bagent being a good story and the Velus drop make nfl fans feel bad for us instead of clowning us for once. It's just another primetime embarrassment to add to the long list. Thank god they dunked on the Commanders.
My reaction is the NFL analysts are almost always wrong on quarterback prospects
A month ago Caleb Williams was the best prospect in the last 20 years. Now he looks straight up average.
This team is bad really really bad. It fields loses again next year will be in the same position as we are now trying to draft a quarterback.
My take is right out the rookie contract don't make a decision until you have to.
Why start yet another quarterback rebuild next year for guys who have a 95% chance to fail on this team also.
Use the first round picks to draft top-tier talent you know will be here long-term and be successful like a wide receiver and an d end.
Let's build the team to where they're pretty good and stacked with young talent before we start playing the roulette game that is quarterbacks out of college.
You're wrong. The first QB taken in each NFL draft has a pretty good track record. Not perfect, but they turn out good more often than they turn out bad.
EJ Manuel, Blake bortles, jameis Winston, Cam Newton, Mitch, Baker, Kyler,
Luck Goff and burrow
This team isn't that bad - the problem is we don't have a QB. The Chargers are not a very good team - the difference is that Herbert is a very good QB.
Switch Herbert to the Bears and give the Chargers Fields/Bagent and we win that game last night.
The only thing that sucks about last night is Bagent probably didn’t play well enough to dislodge Fields, which means we’re gonna have to watch at least 8 more games of Fields’, which means there will be truly no reason to watch for anything other than to bet against the Bears.
Cry more
Ed O'Bradovich lost it last night and he was right about Justin Fields walking around sidelines with sunglasses on lackadaisically while game was going on instead of being next to Luke Getsy.
Fields should never start another game for Bears again after that stunt. Time to move on.
Guess you missed the part where they said Fields had been helping Bagent as much as possible leading up to last night? Did you also miss where Fields was sitting next to Bagent when he wasn't on the field?
It was a bad time for the Chargers to remember they actually have talent on their team.
Individual and coaching performances aside, it was clear which team had the better talent.
And, tbh, I think the Bears D-line was actually trying pretty damn hard to get to Herbert. Aside from one play where I still don't know what Justin Jones was thinking (had a clear shot at Herbet), I liked their effort. The Chargers O-line was just not having anything.
I'm personally ready for Fields to be back
I see no reason why Bagent shouldn’t start another game or two. The fact that we can’t say definitively who is better between Fields and Bagent means we’re drafting a QB next year, so why not give Bagent another shot. He’s shown some potential
I was at the game last night in SoFi Stadium. My biggest takeaway is - our defense absolutely stinks. I know, shocker there. The sentiment on the field for the Chargers was pretty much, we can have anything anytime we want. Slants over the middle? Free. Austin Eckler for another 5 yard run up the gut? Free.
Also I do not think Bagent has the poise of a starting QB. Everyone saying how he is a "serviceable backup" but he looked overwhelmed to me. Other than that first throw of the game, what did he really do well? I give more credit to DJ Moore for his YAC yards, and Cole Kmet finding the right spot to get wide ass open a few times.
Plenty of stupid in here.
Thoughts:
-
Velus shouldn't see the field again this season. In fact, go fetch me some water, you're now the hydration guy. Just try not to drop any water bottles on your way back from the bench.
-
Bagent's arm is seriously not it. I like his attitude, his decision-making, his progress through his reads and his ability to move in the pocket but the fact of the matter is, if you don't have a live arm you ain't making it in this league. (in before someone lists a few mediocre examples of dudes with weak arms)
-
You need a quick 10 yards? Throw at 29. I know he's a rookie and this is trial by fire but goddamn, get him some help. Some say receivers are still making catches on him right now.
-
Our highly paid linebackers can't tackle for shit.
-
If I'm Poles I am adding beef on both sides of the line. Desperately need pass rush and better pass blocking. Run blocking is great but running doesn't win in this league, especially when your defense is a sieve.
-
Fields wouldn't have fared any better against the Chargers. They just out-talented the Bears.
-
I am sick of seeing teams like the Chargers consistently draft good QBs. Meanwhile we get Great Value brand bullshit year after year. Herbert is the real deal, loved watching him play.
-
Please don't waste anymore of your anger on this team, they don't deserve it. Just watch for individual plays and players to see how they do through the year.
-
Everflush seems like a nice man who has the respect of his players but is in over his head. He needs to be a DC, not a head coach. Please let this season be his last.
-
If we hire another defensive head coach I'll be so pissed off man. It's obvious the game is won via offense. Hire an offensive head coach. Goddamn I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
-
I am not on the Poles must go train, as I believe a lot of the moves he's made have made sense and when they failed (#15) he got rid of them quickly. But his leash is short, IMO.
-
Anyway, see you fuckers next week, Bear down or some shit.
The defense is capable of looking ok against mediocre QBs but is always going to get picked apart by good ones. I honestly dont care that much, in the modern NFL you need an offense that can outscore in games like this. Once we have that I might start caring about the defense.
I would love nothing more than to see Bagent seize the QB1 position and guarantee that we don't make the huge mistake of giving fields a fourth year (after we made the huge mistake of giving him a third year).
But I didn't spend the last two years calling bad qb play bad in the face of downvotes and cope just to give in to trutherism now. That was bad qb play.
(Disclaimer: playing bad in his second start as an udfa does not mean he's bad for a UDFA, or that he's not a fun story, or that he has no chance to do better, or whatever other reddit illiteracy people are about to accuse me of).
Bagent made too many bad reads, was scared to work the middle of the field when it was there, held the ball too long at times, and looked shaky on long throws (the Mooney bomb to open the game was a touch underthrown and Mooney made a great adjustment, the VJJ drop was quite off-target but the coverage was so busted it should have been caught anyway).
He had good zip on some of his shorter throws but it was inconsistent and there were a few completions where the ball took forever to get there and he only got away with it because the coverage was playing soft in a blowout.
He had a couple of great third down throws (there was one to mooney that he put right over the defender's shoulder, love the fearlessness) but with his inconsistent arm those kinds of throws are going to lead to more picks. He was lucky it was only two tonight and he'll have more 2+ nights than he does 0 this season if he keeps playing.
Every time the camera shows Eberflus during a game, he looks so overwhelmed. Like his brain is running Windows 95 and can't keep up with the pace of a game.
So which is worse, the Alan Williams sieve defense or the Eberflus no tackle method?
My favorite point of the game was the shot of a sunglasses wearing Fields trying to hide his Kush mart eyes.
Honestly, if this loss hastens the departure of this staff, I’m all in.
What an absolute buzzkill last night was. It is never fun to lose and we are down our qb1 but when your supposedly improving defense allows 30 points and your offense only puts up a 13 spot against one of the worst defenses in the league, that just drains the battery of hope in a hurry and makes you question the play calling all the more. I would hope there is a stiff litmus test for improvement to bring back Flus and Getsy. Poles looks culpable for the roster but I don't know how long full rebuilds take with roster strip downs and buildups.
Do we think Justin is playing this week against the saints?
I'm just here to wish you all a happy fall and winter. Find pleasure in things other than this shit pile. I beg you
I swear I am gonna lay off football until next season
Why do pro-Bagent posts get downvoted so much? I am pro-Bagent. That doesn’t mean I think he’s going to be our franchise QB.
It means that he’s a fun and interesting story and I enjoy watching him beat the odds. We are going nowhere this season and he’s currently the most interesting thing about the team right now. Let him start against the saints. No reason to rush Fields back
Through 2 games, Bagent has already shown he can be a quality backup in the NFL. He's got the composure of a 10 year veteran and makes safe/smart and accurate throws 90% of the time. That's exactly what you expect from a backup.
It's too early to say that's his ceiling though, given he's a rookie with 2 starts under his belt. Especially since he's performing not too dissimilarly from a certain #1 pick out in Carolina, among other QBs.
Nevertheless, the "next Brock Purdy" hype can at least die down for now.
The game sucked, the Bears were terrible, but how about some unbiased officiating to give us a chance?
Mooney should have scored on the opening play. The ref standing there didn't blow the whistle, someone back thirty yards behind the play did. Come on man.
Kmet should have scored, there was no way forward progress stopped.
The offensive lineman clearly blocked a Bears LB in the back on that long Eckler run that lead to the final TD
The offensive linemen on the Chargers were tackling Bears pass rushers all night.
The officiating was SO one sided, it was an embarrassment to the NFL on National TV again. And the announcers, complete cowards for not calling them out.
Eberflus has only beat Trey Lance, Mac Jones, Sam Howell, Brandon Hoyer and Davis Mills
