all the "fuck the system" bands from the 80s-90s were right all along

Indeed, in the wise words of the Boys, Beastie: "You gotta fight.. for your right.. to partyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy".
I love that that song was a throwaway to make a point and it went crazy.
I know right? Of course as a kid that totally flew over my head, it was just a jam. It's still a jam anyways haha.
And they were only 16 years old when they made that album.
Also, in the words of Dee Snider and Twisted Sister: "We're not gonna take it, anymore."
Also in the words of Dee Snyder: "the only sado-masocism going on in the song 'Under the Knife,' is happening in Tipper Gore's head."
Rage Against The Machine were one of the realest bands ever.
Rage Against The Machine is what happens when I see AI in my web search results.
Muse too.
I preferred when they weren't political.
Yea RATM is so woke now. I miss the good old days when they were just about having fun 🤭
Punk was always right.
Just need to add church officials to that separate bathroom.
Early Gen-X went from seeing the horrors of the Vietnam war on TV, straight into Reganism, Iran Contra, and more. All while under the looming shadow of global thermonuclear war, which was pushed heavily into the zeitgeist by cold-war politics at the time. Sure, there's a lot good stuff from that era too, but there was also plenty to rage about.
I can’t find a direct quote from Trent saying this anywhere except reposts on various social media, none of which appear to be Reznor official.
Can anyone verify this is a real quote or is it just made up crap?
Edit: more digging…looks like the earliest edition of this was on instagram about a day ago and for some reason took off about 16 hours ago. My search-fu isn’t good enough to find the origin.
I can’t find it either…but I found this in The Village Voice from 2017: “the president of the United States is a complete fucking moron,” he seethes. “That’s what gets me the most — that he’s this vulgar, grotesque dope, everything I hate in people.”
This particular quote is made up.
So, it’s a terrible lie? I’m hurt. Makes me wish this fragile society wasn’t in such a downward spiral.
Now there's a comment with teeth.
These days, I'm afraid of Americans.
Tragic. Any possibility he said it on tour?
Probably not this exact thing, but he has said a lot against Trump and MAGA.
As GenX, Xennial, whatever we’re called these days, I miss this guy. I have to remind myself, 40s and 50s isn’t dead, yet.
Bite the Hand that Feeds comes to mind. Reznor refused to perform it at an awards show during the Gulf War because they wouldn’t let him display a giant head shot of George W. Bush during. Then there’s Bowie. Reznor was “Johnny” in the “I’m Afraid of Americans” video.
We also had Rage. What music is being produced now, rock side, that’s worth a damn?
ETA: Head. Like a Hole is fitting, in the billionaire era.
Check out Rise Against. Very much a "fuck the establishment" band.
It's all underground and decentralized into its own communities. Takes a good amount of digging but its not like say the 70s-early 00s where smaller to medium sized labels were taking risks and funding all kinds of music that allowed for bands like NIN and Rage to hit the stratosphere. With all the M&A and industry contraction, risk taking is severely discouraged. Hence, the generic slop seen in the surface today.
Parquet Courts, IDLES, Mannequin Pussy, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, black midi (recent rip), Kneecap, Turnstile, shame, Squid, Dry Cleaning, Yard Act, SPRINTS, Amyl & the Sniffers, so many more, the list goes on and on!
The entire Year Zero album was Trent's revive of what would become MAGA. Unfortunately, the only solution for the problem in his album was aliens killing everyone.
It's still a great album and very relevant today.
Seriously prophetic. The ARG for the album’s release was such a mind blowing experience.
Also Art.Is.Resistance. felt like what was prescriptive for the situation.

Run the Jewels has collaborated with Zach De la Rocha and Nobody Speak with DJ Shadow is an anthem.
Viagra Boys has some catchy antifascist lyrics.
I kinda like the Idles’ album Tangk. It more rock and makes some good points, mainly to “fuck the king”
El-P collabed with Trent on Flyentology.
Fuck I'm old now aren't I?
Proceeds to crank Thot Squad to feel young.
There was also SoaD and their singer Serj Tankian, who went solo. Their songs are still fucking dead on.
Check out run the jewels. Corporate avenger was good but didn't last very long. A lot of Slipknot is in the same vein.
RTJ make songs for Turbo Tax now. Sold out fucks.
Well, that's disappointing.
Killer Mike is your textbook definition libertarian. He's capitalist af with specific interest in specific progressive policies that he is personally invested in. Especially if those interest align with his brand image. He's was rahrah Bernie until it wasn't making him any money.
RTJ3 still my favorite though
Much like with healthcare, all this bullshit with who uses what bathroom is a solved issue in other parts of the world.
... but being an American I assume it will never happen because building bathrooms to respect human privacy and dignity probably costs wealthy commercial property builders and owners at least $1 more than doing the bare minimum required by building code.
The solution, if you're wondering, is that there isn't a giant ladies' room and giant men's room. There are several individual bathrooms, each with its own little sink to wash hands and a real door. It doesn't even take up much space. It's just a short section of hallway with 3-4 doors on each side.
I'd just start by building toilet stall without gaps in the door so wide that people can see into the stalls whenever they walk past.
That reminds me, we should make a list of people not in the files, it would be shorter.
Know what else would make the list shorter?

Would also seem like an excellent stimulus package. Install an extra bathroom for an, type of gender identity and one more for maga
Did he actually say that? Can anyone confirm? Cause that's pretty cool
Agreed
