I live in a constant state of anxiety that people feel that way about my house but are just too nice to say anything

Go away for a weekend and when you come back, that’s what others smell.

One friend lives in an old house with a gas leak

Drove me fucking nuts

[–] extremeboredom@lemmy.world 13 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I love that the gas leak is just accepted as a feature of the home, like bay windows or a sunken living room.

Without the gas leak the rent would be almost double.

"Lives?" Present tense?!

I know somebody whose house blew up from a gas leak, killed one of the tenants. The one that the landlord paid $7 an hour to help change the hot water heater and did it wrong. The ATF investigated and declared an oopsie. Dead guys dumbass wife despite knowing there's a gas leak and being told not to light a cigarette lit a cigarette.

I've changed a gas water heater before, and I can confirm that you have to be a dumbass not to be real careful to do it right, especially if you live in the house!

Growing up, one of our elderly cats started pooping on the floor almost daily, and even before that she refused to bury it in the litter box. I can confirm you can get used to any smell to the point you barely notice it until you've spent time elsewhere.

(I hated living there)

Some people with well water have water that just tastes awful and they think it tastes fine.

Yeah, where I live. My roommates don't stay up on cleaning up after the dogs. The dogs don't mess in the house but the fur is EVERYWHERE! The house and yard isn't big enough for 3 dogs.

Well, they're kicking me put, so once I can find a new place, it won't be my problem anymore.

Everywhere but my house smells weird and it irks me almost as much as how nobody else notices everywhere smells weird.
