I still get it free from T-mobile. Otherwise, I’d do some months on, some off

[–] No-Structure-2800@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Dumped Netflix. Saving.

[–] whatgift@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ve never thought Apple TV+ was worth the money - both for the quantity and the enjoyment of its content. While it can arguably claim to have high quality content, it doesn’t appeal to a wide audience. For me most of it is boring and tedious to sit through, and not enjoyable at all. Yet on Netflix I can watch a wealth of content from many different countries that may not be the best quality wise, but stands out in variety and entertainment value, and caters for all demographics.

Good decision

[–] SoG2009@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah it’s not worth it with what little content it has. Much better for getting it for one month than binge watching what you want.

[–] Bay_Burner@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Thanks for sharing. Let us know how much everything else is that you choose not to purchase.

[–] jason22983@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Everybody saying the $4.99 price was a great deal doesn’t understand how business works. Apple produced $100 million tv shows for the first few years. It was a great deal for you, but a shitty one for Apple. The more they spend on content, the more the price will be. Anywho doesn’t understand that needs to look up the definition of business. With any streaming company, if they are going to have 2-3 big name actors in a show on a consistent basis, expect to pay for it.

[–] Strassburg-boy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Do yourself a favor and get Keyoclock they have everything from Live TV to Netflix, HBO, Box Office ect.. I would recommend getting the 24 hour trial before to see if it’s going to work out for you.

[–] plazman30@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I bought AppleOne 2 years ago, and it saved me money over individual prices. Now it's saving me more money because I could cancel my SimpleLogin subscription and use Hide My Email. I cancelled my Google Drive subscription and just use iCloud Drive.

The bundled features are pretty nice.

[–] Yesacchaff@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What I do is instead of paying money every month to loads of different streaming platforms I just buy the shows and movies. Got 100s of movies and all the tv shows that I watch all brought and downloaded on a hard drive. This saves me money every month and I own them unlike streaming for the rest of my life.

[–] CreeperThePro@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Completely reasonable price. If you want to cancel don’t announce it.

[–] anverhelm@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I already canceled Apple TV along with Apple Music. Back to sailing the high seas for me. $11 a month for a VPN is cheaper than all these bullshit streaming services raising prices. Everything keeps going up except my paycheck. And a lifetime subscription to Plex is VERY reasonable.

[–] bhavesh47135@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

ProtonVPN is currently the best vpn for torrenting and a year's subscription is $72

[–] TegridyPharmz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You can’t pay 11 bucks a month for Spotify or Apple TV? You’re that cheap?

[–] anverhelm@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's not about the money. It's about sending a message. And mind your own business on how I spend my money, you fucking nerd.

[–] igmyeongui@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This is the way. Fuck this corporate greed and let's watch them die one by one. The only way I see this is one company where you have access to 100% of the streaming services, and they send the amount of money you've actually consumed to those streaming services. This means more people will use the streaming services = more content and more customers/income for them. Everyone's happy. Look at this it'll never happene because they're all fucking stupid. So let's sail the high seas and watch them die.

[–] punkassjim@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Congratulations, you just invented comcast.

[–] thaddeus_flowe@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

yeah i have the ultimate one or whatever it's called is inching towards 40/month which is nuts

[–] Weeksy79@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The fact they don’t bulk release shows bothers me wayyyyyy more than the price

[–] ChoiceIT@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

The main defense I would bring is Apple One and their desire to push people to it. 20 a month for services that would cost close to 30 individually is a steal if you like games and apple music as well.

I don't think anyone else besides Disney/Hulu/ESPN have a package deal like that.

[–] padmepounder@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Used to be a steal, don’t worry if you still believe it is a steal, they will eventually fuck that as well. I subscribe to one family plan mainly for iCloud for the family and only me using Apple Music and sometimes I do use fitness + them increasing prices makes me just want to cancel the whole thing.

[–] ChoiceIT@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I'm sure they will. Just not there yet for me, like Netflix has become already.

These guys really wont be afraid of piracy until it happens to them.

[–] fatherunit72@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I wish they had a lower tier family plan with Music, TV and iCloud. Fitness, News and Arcade are all kinda meh to me

[–] VALTIELENTINE@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah for multiple people using Apple Music and iCloud storage and the occasional game or Apple TV show is a steal. Enough so that I just pay for my whole family to use it and use their hbo/hulu. Dressing the day Apple raises family Apple one prices too high or those other streaming services do the Netflix password crackdown.

Then I’ll be shivering me timbers.

[–] phareous@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Well my Apple one is going up $5 so not a deal for me anymore. I canceled and just pay for iCloud and music. I can sub and unsubscribe from tv as I need. Had to give up Apple News but not going to pay extra for it

I laugh every time I see the price now or the ad pops up on the Apple TV app. Too funny to think their streaming service is worth $10 a month.

[–] StatePsychological60@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

To each their own, but it’s easily worth it for us.

[–] ColdAnteater344@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

its great to keep for a few months watch the content and cancel but there arent that many shows and they launch weekly - ill prob just sub for a month or two a year now.

[–] sunplaysbass@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Same. It’s going into the rotating binge bucket. I’ll get it again in one month increments when a new good series / season is fully released.

[–] applegui@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m sure this is a loss leader for Apple to build out the ecosystem and services. The Apple One sub however is still the best all around bang for your buck. Also $9.99 is still the cheapest service out there without ads. I know you can get Netflix for $6.99 with ads and Peacock at $1.99 with ads. But MAX, SiriusXM, and Netflix 4K are the most expensive streaming platforms and it’s getting out of control. .

[–] mykesx@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

TV+ has a much better hit ratio than NetFlix for less than half the cost. It’s in line with most of the other streaming services, if not still less expensive.

At the initial price, it was an incredible deal.

I get mine with the Premium subscription, with more storage, arcade, news, etc.

Imagine complaining about a $3 hike. People are not willing to pay for shit, so people get paid like shit.

[–] nkd83@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Canceled mine too. I’ll sign up once every six months and binge watch what’s there lol. 😝 I got Netflix free for a year with Verizon. Will do the same there.

[–] ADHDK@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’m seeing if there’s any shows I neeed to wrap up before the price increase. Definitely cancelling. Shame because it looks like a lot of good new content is coming out November and January.

Might have to pirate some.

I’ve never had a cable TV package and steering subscription into being cable TV’s replacement isn’t going to change that.

[–] netscorer1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Just turn on subscription for couple of months every year to catch up on new shows. With plenty of free codes this would not cost you a dime.

[–] ADHDK@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As an ADHD person I view subscriptions as either a forever thing or a never thing, because it’s guaranteed I’ll forget and pay longer. Just ask my Optimus prime or Matthew McConaughey bed time stories from Calm I absolutely never use, but got a free year from work which auto renewed (thankfully about to expire and cancelled).

I also have a 16tb file server kind of not doing much because HP were giving these things away when they split with HPE, so it’s not like file storage or the resources to run an endpoint are a problem.

[–] No_Bar8332@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I like to rotate streaming services over the year. When I get tired of one, I switch to another. With this increase, I am ready to ditch them for 6 months and then see what they got. I have no loyalty to any of them.

[–] reddituserVibez@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

they know many will cancel it.. i don’t understand why you increase the price like this.. i rather sell a 4,99$ subscription to 1 million people than a 9,99$ subscription to 50k people 🤦

[–] bwtwldt@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just pirate. Why deal with fickle corporations?

[–] conkeee@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’d pay £20 a month for Apple TV. The quality is superb

[–] MrFranzen@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

ATV+ has a lot of quality content, not sure I would pay for it as a standalone streaming platform, but I have it through my Apple One package, as I´m an Apple Music guy (mostly for the dolby atmos content). And for $20 that´s a good deal for me for music, icloud storage, atv+ and arcade. Arcade actually has alot of decent titles.

[–] mountain-guy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

If you have T-mobile you get a free sub to ATV+

I’ll subscribe once a year for a month. Binge everything I missed. Cancel. Rinse and repeat.

Just got the email and canceled immediately. One of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made in my life.

$3/mo isn’t going to break the bank but I’ve been trying to cut my streaming costs anyhow and Apple made this easy. Unlike their competitors, they’re going to be adding content for at least a year a two before they start removing any.

I’ll check back in a year from now, having saved $84 (based on the old subscription cost) and probably be able to catch up with anything I missed in a month or two.
