I was banned from News for acting too Republican, and now I am not given the option to block the community. It's like 90% Trump posts, and I just want to talk about cats or something without hearing about my annoying president.

...I've never met a "MAGA" in real life. I know a bunch of Republicans, but not the stereotype obsessed over on social media. It's reminiscent of the McCarthy era and communism. Everyone talked about communists all day, every day, but they were sooo good at blending in that nobody saw them.

What is MAGA even refer to? People who don't think the benefits of excessive immigration outweigh the negatives? People who are annoyed with the people online ranting about obscure gender issues? If this were the case, then a lot of the democrats i know are apparently MAGA.

Comment in question. I probably wouldn't have banned you personally. But let's not pretend like you were just expressing a different opinion. You were trolling, and trying to get a response from people. I have personally had the unfortunate experience of sitting at a bar coincidently next to these ding dongs, and seen them roll into town waving their flags and rolling coal as they went to Trumps campaign rally in the town I live in.

[–] BygoneNeutrino@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is my opinion. I'm sorry if you don't like it. Out of the hundred simple comments that were insulting Republicans, my comment was the only one that didn't agree.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It's a pretty dumb take to say MAGA people don't exist. I've literally sat next someone at a bar telling everyone around him Trump should be king. And I've had the unfortunate experience of seeing his MAGA fan base come into town rolling coal while waving their idiotic flags out the windows and hanging from their trucks on their way to one of his campaign stops. It's not an opinion, it just makes you look dumb.

Let me reframe my comment. Tell me if you still think it's trolling. Assume I'm responding to:

"Those woke people are getting what they deserve at the gas pump. They voted for Sleepy Joe Biden, they get what they deserve."

…I’ve never met a “Woke” person in real life. I know a bunch of Democrats, but not the stereotype obsessed over on social media. It’s reminiscent of the McCarthy era and communism. Everyone talked about communists all day, every day, but they were sooo good at blending in that nobody saw them.

What does "Woke" even refer to? People who think the benefits of diversity outweigh the negatives? People who are annoyed with the people online ranting about the right to life and abortion? If this were the case, then a lot of the Republicans i know are apparently "Woke".

...if you no longer think I'm trolling, then you just don't agree with my original opinion.

I haven't met many people that conform to the MAGA stereotype. It seems to mostly be used as a slur to dehumanize Republicans. I'm a centrist; I'd have made a similar argument if the majority was dehumanizing Democrats.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Nope, still looks trolling to me. Pretty obvious sealioning actually, whether you mean to your not.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

Personally, I don't believe anyone has human rights. It is the wolves right to hunt the gazelle for food, and it's the gazelle's right to evade him.

I don't really care what dumb shit you got banned for, this is the sentiment that made you deserve it. Go fuck yourself, you ghoul.

The default UI makes it clunky, but I think you can go to you profile settings (https://lemmy.world/settings) and on the "Blocks" tab search for the community and add it to your blocks.

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Sadly, old lemmy (an alternate UI that looks like old reddit) doesn't even show the block tab under settings. No wonder I couldn't figure out how to unblock things.

[–] BygoneNeutrino@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Thanks. I figured I'd be blocked eventually because the opinions on that sub were so homogeneous, but it would have been fucked up if I had to make a new account to block the sub that banned me.

... it's just baffling to me. Dissenting opinions are a good thing. Echo chambers aren't healthy for the people in them. It's just weird how the opinions of the people I know are so different than the opinions of people on the internet. It's like I live in an alternate reality.

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I have not checked your mod log and I won’t because… I just don’t care (you’re a stranger anyway, lol). However, personally, I consider Lemmy a Reddit 2.0 but then more into technology.

You will get banned or blocked for the most random thing or having a slightly different opinion these days. The world has just become that divided.

That’s why I recommend to just block and avoid every political and news communities.

[–] BygoneNeutrino@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

...this was actually a positive experience. My All feed is completely different after excluding that one particular community. It feels less like I'm surrounded by bots and more like an active platform.

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I didn't check but "dissenting opinions" can easily just be manipulative disinfo that will direct the least intellectually competent one way or another. No, takes that are close to reality are valid and useful, and attitudes that are prosocial and virtues are the only ones worth having, everything else is incomplete/trash.

Idk what you said in those online spaces, I didn't click the links, honestly, so don't think I'm coming for you personally. But two things are not the same just because they're in the same category (sure, poop IS edible but it's not the same as spaghetti bolognaise), and takes and attitudes aren't all worth the same, and I'd rather have a "closed community" of diverse righteous folks sharing things competently truthfully than have to share it with amoral beasts and the offensively mentally challenged.

Yet another ban that only demonstrates the mod's personal world view rather than enforcing the community rules.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (3 children)

You can see the comment in the modlog, apparently banned for trolling:

[–] socsa@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

Lmao MAGA skepticism is a pretty hot take ngl

[–] AskewLord@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

exactly. called a troll for relating their real world experience and being told that it isn't real because the mod doesn't agree with it.

fwiw i totally relate to what they said. I have met plenty of dems and 'leftists' who are MAGA in private. People are not necessarily political honest, a lot of them express views that are socially expedient in mixed company, but if they feel 'safe' with you they will tell you what they really think. there is also this weird emphasis on MAGA witch hunting in many places/spaces, usually perpetuated by these very same people who are projecting. I've also been told I'm MAGA because i don't agree with some of the extremist leftist takes on society, or the identity politics that the Dems have become so focused on.

i've had my comments labeled as trolling for this very same reason. some mods/people just can't have an idea that challenge their over-simplified view of the world, so they ban it as trolling. A lot of mods seem to struggle with the concept that people lie and are two-faced... and tell you you are trolling if you acknowledge that... i wonder why?

trolling is also most a eye of the beholder thing. I've posted wikipedia links and been told I'm a troll for doing so. lol

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 3 points 2 days ago

I blame it on partisan realism, wherein the social construct of consensus reality is bifurcated along political lines. People have learned to use consensus reality as a weapon by denying the very existence of other ideologies. "If you disagree with my political views, you are literally not real". I wrote a longer explanation on My blog

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net -2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That's a terrible modlog entry. I would have banned OP for transphobia and xenophobia.

[–] HuudaHarkiten@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

To me it looks like a classic case of sealioning

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 3 points 2 days ago

No, the questions are rhetorical.

[–] Iconoclast@feddit.uk 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Doesn't change much. Equally made-up reasons. Only a willingly ignorant interpretation pulls that out of what OP actually said.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Then you look at their OTHER comments...
