I keep a light up plastic sword beside my bed for this very reason. The same fun for a tenth of the cost and it hangs nicely on my towel rack while I pee.

[–] BleatingZombie@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Does it make swishing sounds, too? I'd buy it

[–] Nudding@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I like to go full horror movie with a single match.

they keep me warm at night

[–] TheCheddarCheese@lemmy.world 27 points 2 years ago

okay that sounds kinda dope tbh

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 18 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I would actually use this.

They're blue. Exactly the wrong spectrum to get you to sleep.

"I got these kickass orbs, but now I'm wired as balls at 3AM."

🤷🏻‍♂️

Dude in /r/LV426 was making blown glass Alien eggs, couldn't resist. I can leave the red light on all night, but still see and not get wired up. Also, long wavelengths make skin look smoother and nicer. "Does your wife like 'photographs'? Know what I mean?" Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

(I'm channeling Python, but sex in red light is truly a thing.)

EDIT: You can set them to red! Now I'm diggin' them.

[–] Piecemakers3Dprints@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

All due respect, but 3D printed versions world be far more cost effective and safer, but... 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 8 points 2 years ago (2 children)

You and me both. I'm just afraid to look it up and see the cost.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 14 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I just did. It's $70, which seems excessive for what it is. Oh well.

[–] Kit@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 years ago

Look up "moon lamp" on your retailer of choice. For like $15 you can get a single rechargeable sphere like this. And you can set it to whatever color you want.

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

See, it's times like this when I really wish that the whole "/u/Stamets and Startrek.website are paid Paramount shills" thing was true.

I would like money.

I knew I recognized your username from something but I couldn’t figure it out, thank you

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Wait, you mean you recognized the username as being from a Trek show or because I post constantly to the trek communities?

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Probably the circuitry required for the "wireless" charging so you can just drop it in that little holder instead of having to unplug it

Assuming ofc you can take the image at face value

[–] LufyCZ@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Wireless charging is just a tiny bit of copper and a cheap (probably cents) controller

[–] Stuka@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It seems to suck if the reviews are any indication

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 1 points 2 years ago

That does make it a little better

A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON

[–] draconik@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Damn it! quickload

[–] Aggravationstation@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Where do you put it in the bathroom?

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago (2 children)

On the counter and then it rolls off the edge and falls to the floor and shatters

[–] gamermanh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Judging by the look of it in the pic I'd guess it's those silicon balls that LEDs can be put into, so it'd be squishy and not shatter

Actually a pretty smart use of led tech

[–] LongbottomLeaf@lemmy.nz 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] Aggravationstation@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

It says "...each ball has a battery in it that powers an internal LED bulb which lasts for up to 30 minutes on its own."

Then the next sentence starts with "The night-light glow balls also have no electronics in them..." So which is it?

[–] LongbottomLeaf@lemmy.nz 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I, too, was bothered by that. I was hoping they were phosphorescent rather than LED.

[–] DeepFriedDresden@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The Amazon listing says the balls are phosphorescent and doesn't mention batteries.

[–] LongbottomLeaf@lemmy.nz 3 points 2 years ago

Oh good. The article was less clear.

[–] HubertManne@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

seems like it would make more sense for a lamp with wireless charging pad.

[–] uphillbothways@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Maybe it could set on the towel rack. Idk. That'd be my first concern also. Even after cleaning my own bathroom I assume aerosolized germs are everywhere and carry nothing in there that doesn't belong there.

[–] Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Especially with kids, who aren't the most conscientious hand washers

[–] RicoRodriguez42@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That will certainly look a bit Ood wink wink

[–] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

We will feed...

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

White/Blue light is a fucking terrible choice for something like this. Blue light makes you more alert and reduces quality of sleep, so you'll be more tired than before you had this.

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

Do you need to put these outside in a storm to recharge them?
