My main accomplishment for today is that I pulled myself out of my doom / inaction / depresso / obsession spiral and made dinner rather than eating leftovers or toast (or worse, nothing).

Easy stir fry noodles, with frozen veg and some mock chicken and mock char siew I splurged on at Minh Phat the other day. Red rice noodles from my mum, and chilli-garlic-ginger paste premade using my own garden chillies (frozen while I was away).

Dinner on Sunday night was an epic effort of making three curries almost at the same time. Dal (with tadka made separately), tempeh/eggplant/capsicum dry fried with spices (first two items fried separately), and a decadant mock mutton coconut curry. All that exhausted me, far out.

Former boss reached out to me last week to gauge my interest in returning to a place I worked at years ago.

He was the reason I left so I'm not sure how I feel. I gave them an exorbitant price tag for my return and some other conditions and let's see what they say.

[–] GroteStreet@aussie.zone 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Been there, done that, good money, killed my mental health and relationships.

I'm not saying don't do it, just make sure you can recognise the symptoms when it starts affecting other areas of your life.

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

100%

Last time I left I had enough of the boss and his ways. That was discussed yesterday (not with him, but with my old colleagues that are still there). Apparently he's changed a bit but probably not enough.

I remind myself why I left in the first place and that money ain't everything.

smash bowl on orange tiled floor with sad pieces of banana, raspberries, strawberries, and peaches

RIP fruit salad, you were gonna be delicious and RIP favourite baking bowl.

For a solid 5 seconds I thought I was looking at some pretty cool wall art in front of some kind of futuristic coffin. Then I read what you wrote and noticed the cupboard handles.

I found a bank letter outside with no envelope and the replacement card missing (could see the imprint)... went over to my neighbour's place to let someone know only to see a further bunch of her mail opened and strewn in a pile.

Fortunately I still had her daughter's number and let her know in case someone was draining her mum's bank account or stealing her identity. Then I gathered the other opened mail and hid it behind something so other people wouldn't grab it. That's so shitty. She's a sick old woman. I found the original near my own letterbox so wondering if the pricks have stolen any of my mail 😰

Edit: To clarify the bank letter with the missing/stolen card was addressed to this neighbour. I went to talk to her family about it because a few years ago she had a stroke

Yeah well, the Australian Tax Authority has issued a warrant for my arrest in WA.

Who's the greater mastermind criminal huh?

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

All I've got is unpaid tolls and a medical insurance account that's about to expire, feel like I've accomplished very little in life :(

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 5 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Don't worry. When Australian Postage contacts you about uncollected packages you know you've made it.

Oh fun story update: the real estate agent didn't even show up. Haven't heard from him or the guy I called who said he'd get the guy to give me a call with an idea of what time he'd be here. Good job, MICM!

[–] fullkitwanker@aussie.zone 7 points 2 years ago

Still in bed with my laptop 🥱 I don't have the energy to get up but I need food 😢

[–] Aradina@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Needed some shelving. Ordered from kmart. Kinda needed some other things, and wanted to get up to the free shipping threshold so I got some plastic drawers and a laundry hamper.

Meant to be delivered on the 15th, but the order couldn't be picked up for some reason. Fast forward to today and it gets picked up and delivered... Everything except the shelving. The main reason for the order.

Bah. Refund was quick though. So that's nice.

Just got a text 5 minutes ago from my real estate agency saying I have a routine inspection today between 10-5:30pm and asks if I'll be home. It was sent in short code format so I can't reply, there's no phone number included, it's the first I'm hearing about an inspection and it's from a name who isn't listed on the real estate "our team" site. It's legit though.

Called the guy who I think is my property manager (last one who emailed me, in October, about January's price increase) and he said the guy is new, suggested maybe it was my fault that I may have missed a message (I didn't) and asked if it was ok if they come today.

MICM doesn't quite have the customer service they used to. I don't love this for me.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 10 points 2 years ago (3 children)

meet 'em at the door advise them they've not given advance notice goodbye I always liked to waste their time

"new guy" isnt' an excuse, this is basic law.

Noticed lamb has become a lot cheaper recently. Even the pricier cuts like cutlets.

Oh man... it looked like good news with marginally cheaper food (assuming supermarkets pass the savings on - which they won't) but this just feels ominous.

Along with the talk about the grids I'm worried for summer.

- I don't quite feel 10 years younger, but I do feel way better than I have in the last 5 years. Nice, comfortable run with the doggo this morning, with Rebel Yell to help me up the hill.

[–] mysticgreg@aussie.zone 5 points 2 years ago

Hey great work!

Mine is currently... well... see the red bit? The bottom part of the red bit.

My Apple Watch actually gave me a "low cardio fitness" warning on the weekend during some exercise. But I'm working on it!

I don't know exactly where it came from, I think someone may have said it came from reality TV, but something about the phrase "I love that for you" just hits me the wrong way. I understand the meaning and the sentiment, but it just hits my ear as condescending or with a hint of snark.

Got through first shift OK. Client was lovely and it was their first shift with the company as well.
Only problem was with the app - it wasn't at all intuitive that there's a little arrow icon that you have to press send to start so I didn't realise that I was supposed to do that until I finished. Phoned the office to let them know and noted it in the notes and the client has to follow up a couple of things so she'll let them know I showed up right on time, promise. 😂. Had a gap between shifts and home is between clients so I've stopped home to have a cuppa and lunch and check on the cats.

My job interview last week was hilarously bad. This is the low salary, no negotiating! We work from home on the down low because overseas HQ does not approve, it's not in the company's culture. You will be the only person in your team for all of AU and NZ, anyone who can support you is located overseas. There's 4 (FOUR) rounds of interviews, so get ready! And don't mention WFH in the interview with overseas HQ because they'll get offended by the request. So many red flags, no wonder the job ad has been up / reposted for months.

Learning new things at work and being praised for my intelligence is making my head explode with imposter syndrome, just want to crawl into a little hole and not have a shit ton of people watching me.

[–] fullkitwanker@aussie.zone 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (3 children)

Boss: I'm terrible with emails. Send me a message on teams when you send an email

Me: sends msg on teams to let boss know I've emailed

Boss: "why are you following up so quickly after sending an email? 🙂"

The smiley makes me crawl up the wall and also what do you want me to do boss????

[–] baconmash@aussie.zone 7 points 2 years ago

“You asked me to send you a message on Teams too when I send an email because you said on _ that you are bad at emails 😊👍”

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 6 points 2 years ago

Sounds like your boss needs to grow up and stop treating you like a butler. It’s a basic work expectation to manage your own emails.

About to attempt air frying my steak for dinner with some homemade chips. I’m not sure about this but internet says it can be done.

First day of work today.
In other news, is anyone else's hay fever really bad? Good thing we have to wear masks for this job.

I forgot I was half watching/listening to a creative talk and came back from lunch to this tiny woman in the corner of my screen ( I popped the vid out and made the video window very very small), thought I'd left myself in a meeting or had someone watching me.....
