it should be "en passant sur le croissant"

[–] ThatOneKirbyMain2568@kbin.social 16 points 2 years ago

You know. I've played chess for like 30 years and I can't recall a single time someone has used en passant against me.

[–] EddoWagt@feddit.nl 6 points 2 years ago

I feel like it's a rule made up by someone who didn't agree with the double step rule

"Oh, your pawn can do a double step? Well, my pawn can capture yours anyways!"

Oh I was just thinking chess, but not a specific move within chess.

[–] kernelle@0d.gs 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You've strangely misspelled holy hell

[–] SnipingNinja@slrpnk.net 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm out of the loop, can someone catch me up on the holy hell thing?

[–] kernelle@0d.gs 10 points 2 years ago (2 children)

En passant has always been the most obscure chess rule, in online chess it's often reported as cheating. Which resulted in a lot of people saying "google en passant", on an unkown lemmy clone someone realising it's an actual chess move replied, holy hell, and a meme was born.

[–] ManicZed@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Nope, he's right, it's a rather outdated move that I use to use in middle school to piss people off.

I'm not sure if this counts, since all French just sounds to me like it rhymes with "croissant" ?

[–] Zink@pawb.social 10 points 2 years ago

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago

I'm not gonna say the thing, but I did google it and learned something I didn't know.

[–] Maco1969@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

It's stale mate.

[–] cordlesslamp@lemmy.today 2 points 2 years ago

But what's the point of trading pieces? Now B2 just gonna take A3, or am I missing something?

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.one 8 points 2 years ago

!angryupvote@sh.itjust.works

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !angryupvote@sh.itjust.works
