Holy shit I’m in tears. This is what Reddit used to be

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 57 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I just had the exact opposite problem. Ordered 2, 5lb bags of potatoes. They tried to give me 2 individual ones.

[–] alsimoneau@lemmy.ca 63 points 1 week ago (1 children)

As long as both potatoes are 5lbs, I don't see the problem!

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Those would be some bigass potatoes.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 week ago

Idaho is path to abilities some would consider... Unnatural.

[–] moondoggie@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You should have apologized and started singing “This shit is banana.”

I've been wanting to switch out the buckwheat husk filling in my pillow. So I ordered £14 of the stuff.....turns out that I now am in possession of enough buckwheat husk to be a heirloom for my descendants to last to the heat death of the universe......

[–] danekrae@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

TIL about buckwheat husk filling in pillows.

[–] Sturgist@piefed.ca 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I really like it, stays cooler longer, is firm but also conforms to the shape of your head and neck a bit

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

What normal pillow filling texture would it compare to?

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Imagine the conformity of memory foam with the firmness of dry rice, and you're in the ballpark. There's not really a 1:1 comparison.

It might sound weird but it is super comfortable. It needs to be pretty full though, if it's under-stuffed then it just lacks the support.

Beanbag chair...ish. it's not really close to anything else. In fact I think some beanbag chairs are filled with buckwheat husks.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 week ago

It's common in traditional meditation cushions. It gives you a firm seat while still conforming nicely. There's nothing else like it, honestly.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 2 points 1 week ago

Some traditional Japanese pillows use(d) them, which is where I first learned of them. They're also great because you can remove or add more hulls based on how thick or malleable you want the pillow to be. Highly recommend them.

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They basically sent you an even bigger buckwheat pillow. You could use it as a buckwheat mattress.

[–] Sturgist@piefed.ca 3 points 1 week ago

I'd have to make a new case for it, it's that scratchy plastic.

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 13 points 1 week ago

So you're gonna reupholster all your furniture now right

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago

Fill some couch cushions with it! I love buckwheat filling

That image needs a trigger warning, my cat just ran off to hide

[–] Sturgist@piefed.ca 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The carrier is there because our cat's been deathly ill. Last few months he's been going off food, obviously hungry because he comes and yells at us for the 45mins before supper time, just won't eat. Took him to the vet, nothing seemed wrong with his teeth or tummy. Then my wife said she'd noticed his breathing was quite laboured. They pulled 300ml of fluid from his chest cavity. The possible causes were heart failure, kidney/liver failure, something about proteins 🤷🏾‍♂️ or cancer.
All his bloods came back in the green. Two ultrasounds showed a bit of something in the chest. So CT scan.

Turns out all they can find is a bit of arthritis starting in his spine, but no cause of the fluid. So wee man got shoved in the carrier three days on the bounce, £3500 if I didn't have insurance for him.

Sorry for triggering your fur baby.

[–] GiveOver@feddit.uk 3 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Aw no I didn't expect sad kitty stories. Hope he doesn't have to go back! Here's mine pretending she's not scared of the box

This once happened to me with Kroger and limes

They subbed 6 limes for 6 bags of limes

As a citrus enjoyer I was not at all stressed though. I'd legit eat a lime straight.

[–] BoosBeau@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

Oh yeah, well I'd eat a lime gay, so HAH!

[–] MrsDoyle@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago

Wasted away again in margaritaville....

[–] TammyTobacco@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Lime-aid is the obvious answer

Wait... Who has a apartment building group chat? Am I missing out or that just weird?

[–] kazerniel@piefed.world 9 points 1 week ago (5 children)

We had one in the first building I lived in the UK, it was handy for gossip lol ("what was that screaming last night on the top floor?"). The address was posted on the entrance hall cork board. Ever since I moved from there, I wished that my subsequent buildings/neighbourhoods also had one, but even if one exists, it's deathly silent for months at a time :/

[–] vrek@programming.dev 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The screaming reminded me of one time I was walking my dog around the apartment complex at like 10pm. As I walked by the one building I heard some woman scream from the third floor "oh yeah fuck my pussy papi" at the top of her lungs. I have no idea who screamed or who lived there but I guess she was having a good time.

I think it’s somewhat common, especially for smaller buildings. Mine has one. It’s optional to be part of it, but pretty useful.

I don't know why but lots of people around eastern europe have that either in Viber or WhatsApp, and nothing else. That's where the HOA lead, uhm, does stuff... IDK, I am in a private home.

That guy: “What’s up, Doc? I’ll tell you what’s up. My blood pressure!”

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

You’d think carrots would help with your blood pressure.

When life gives you carrots,

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 7 points 1 week ago

My grandmother did the same thing with potatoes. She accidentally managed to somehow order 220 baking potatoes, for some reason no one at Sainsbury's thought that that was an odd thing to want and didn't question the order and just went ahead and fulfilled it.

Had this happen with big bags of ricola cough drops a ski lodge was giving out for free, my family had enough cough drops for like 15 years

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I did something similar with bananas from Fred Meyer when they changed the units for orders from 'banana' to 'bunch'.

[–] dregan@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Even twenty single carrots is a lot to deal with. What was he planning?
