I'm pretty sure I'd know already if I was gay.

[–] funkajunk@lemm.ee 16 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I dunno, you ever sucked a dick?

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 34 points 2 years ago (6 children)

Yeah but it was attached to a woman so I’m still gay

Well, I was placed in Mexico, but I do enjoy a good ol dick in the ass, what does that make me?

[–] elbarto777@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

If you get it every time you want it, that makes you a happy person.

[–] tehcooles@programming.dev 3 points 2 years ago

Inconclusive. We need more data on Mexico's listening stats before we can truly say.

I was placed in Berkeley. I'm not gay but maybe my taste in music is.

[–] Blackout@kbin.social 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It gave me Burlington. #1 listened artist last year: The Beastie Boys. I sometimes think its less artificial intelligence and more a random number picker.

[–] Evkob@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 years ago

My top genre was "indie québécois" and it placed me in Québec, so it's at least smart enough to figure that out.

This headline broke my brain. I know what Spotify is but not "Spotify Wrapped" so I kept reading it like my Spotify had wrapped something but "Place" next to it just would not compute.

[–] Hexarei@programming.dev 7 points 2 years ago

Basically it's a year in review of your Spotify listening

Bozeman, Montana.

Fine with me, that's where Zefram Cochrane launched the first human-built warp vessel.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Me too, and I missed that reference, shame on me. However Spotify said it was because I like both rock and blues

Now it’s head-canon that Spotify called me a Trekkie! It even fits with all the rest of you who are apparently learning you’re gay

I'm gay, and I got Portland

[–] agnostictofu@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] DemBoSain@midwest.social 8 points 2 years ago

cool, do you know that other guy?

[–] DontTreadOnBigfoot@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Oh, you're that kind of gay... 😒

[–] quotheraven404@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I got Portland too!! I'm bi but I mostly listen to Spotify at work where almost everyone else is gay haha

I got Burlington! I'm not gay as far as I'm aware but whenever someone asks me what kind of music I like in the future, the answer will be "gay music".

Fort Collins, Colorado for me

[–] NielsBohron@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Bozeman, MT for me, apparently because I listen to a fair bit of Jason Isbell and other new-ish alt-country and Americana. Despite the fact that none of my top 5 artists are alt country, the rest of my listening is apparently eclectic enough that nothing else really came close.

I would have thought that having 60-70% of my listening all in a small cluster of esoteric doom-metal-related subgenres would have placed me somewhere with some sort of a metal scene, but apparently not.

[–] I_Comment_On_EVERYTHING@lemmings.world 4 points 2 years ago (4 children)

It's kind of interesting to see all the weird correlations Spotify has pulled out of thin air. Apparently Fort Collins listens to a lot of Sleep Token, Brandi Carlile, and Jacob Collier.

I listen to a mix of classic rock, alt rock, blues and hip-hop and it gave me Bozeman as well.

My wife and I share an account. We got Cambridge. Good thing she came out as bi or else we would be having a strange conversation soon

[–] Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Technically bi (though my tastes lean gay), I was put in Glasgow for listening to a lot of Steps and CHVRCHES... Given that Glasgow was on the running to host the Gay Olympics this year I guess it could be a close equivalent?

[–] Raz@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

Seeing "Gay Olympics" made me go "wut?", so of course I clicked the link, and it immediately made sense.

[–] ShunkW@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I'm gay and I was somewhere in Germany. Mainly due to the black metal and one American band that is insanely popular in Germany for some reason.

So much so that they recorded their live 20 year anniversary somewhere there

San Francisco. Apparently progressive trance is popular there? Idk

[–] systemglitch@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

It never gave me a city. It worked for my partner. I'm kinda pissed I wasted my time on this.

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago
[–] mriormro@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Yep, I got Burlington with The Mountain Goats, Fleet Foxes, and Julia Jacklin.

I'm a straight, cis guy but my friends often tell me I listen to 'sad boi' music so 🤷🏽.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Mine put me in Pittsburg. I've never even been there! But I can take a guess as to why... I like CKY 🤣

Hahaha I was assigned Burlington by this year's wrapped. Guess I'm moving to the lesbian commune out in Vermont.

[–] scytale@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have an account that was used for very limited streaming to a couple of artists. Spotify placed it at Estonia for some reason. None of the artists I listened to are even close to the general area.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago (2 children)

It's not based on the artist's locations, but where the listeners for the artists are.

One of the top artists you're listening to prob has a lot of listeners in Estonia
