Hello World,

This week's Community Spotlights are:

LW Community: Traditional Art (!traditional_art@lemmy.world) - From dabblers to masters, obscure to popular and ancient to futuristic, this is an inclusive community dedicated to showcasing all types of art by all kinds of artists, as long as they’re made in a traditional medium

Fediverse Community: Stick (!stick@sh.itjust.works) - A place for enthusiasts of sticks of all shapes and sizes. We all love a good stick! Is it a walking stick?

First time I've seen /c/communityspotlight

This kind of highlighting of interesting communities across the Threadiverse is a good idea. Thanks!

Glad you like it! Thanks to the !communityspotlight@lemmy.world team for their work!

Is it kosher to submit a community you've started/mod for the spotlight? I started one last week that we've gotten to just over 300 members so far.

Yes of course. We want to help boost all communities that need it.

Thanks just posted in the Discord!

For anyone curious but not in the discord: !forgottenweapons@lemmy.world

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !forgottenweapons@lemmy.world

Really cool stuff, thanks for posting 🤙

Thanks, seeing comments like this on posts is what keeps me going. Otherwise it feels like talking to a void.

Both of them are great communities. Kudos to the mods and posters there.

I like the idea of featuring one LW community and one fedi community.

I’m using Memmy, how do I click through to these communities? If I tap the link it takes me to the main page again.

Ps thanks for the highlights

Hmm, not sure. There's 2 links there, a full https:// address and !traditional_art@lemmy.world link which should work on all platforms. I don't have any iOS devices to test Memmy but maybe someone can help on !memmy@lemmy.ml.

Okay, thank you.

What about a community called something like "Keep it Running" within which we can compare items we've kept running for as long as possible. My laptop is about to make its tenth birthday without any hardware updates (thanks Linux Lite).

The Community Spotlight is for highlighting existing communities to help them grow. But yes, of course, you're free to make any community you want. We just want our communities to be taken care of with good moderation and content. If you do make this community of find one like it, please suggest it on a future Community Spotlight post.

Sticks are cool and the stick community is cool.
