There's a Ray Bradbury story like this about the last human on Mars. He's like 80 and gets into a fight with pre-recorded versions of his past self that he made to not be lonely. Hang on, I'll get the name.

Edit: It was I, Mars (also called Night Call, Collect). I highly recommend the radio play/audio drama version.

A few years ago I found all the Ray Bradbury audio dramas I listened to on cassette available online, but I couldn't find the exact site just now. Try this in the meantime (I am about to enter a movie theater so I didn't look too hard).

I love when scumbags freely out themselves.

Women being beautiful is just one of those free goods that we get in our reality.

Like, that is messed up. Are you saying that women are just things to look at? Because that's what it sounds like, yo.

For one thing there is an issue of agency, or control over their own appearance. Dressing up to look and feel pretty FOR THEMSELVES is a completely different thing from having an external force dictate their apparel. Let's be real, that "external force" is probably mostly a bunch of old dudes.

Another issue, and this is a big one, sports isn't about ogling hot bods! They are there to play sports. Athletes, especially Olympic ones, put immense work into training so they can excel at their sport of choice. They do not put all that work in just to become "eye candy" or anything of the sort.

They don't do this to dudes anywhere near as bad. Imagine if the NBA uniform was crop tops and skin tight briefs or something. That can be comfortable, but in front of an arena and the whole world? Different story.

What about the eggs? I doubt those were willingly gathered.

It's from IT part 2. Bill Hader's character is going to throw a rock at IT, but gets mesmerized by the Deadlights.

I think it means the B key is right beside the N key on qwerty keyboards.

Fair enough, there are a lot of obscure little guys in Sonic lore. It also depends massively if you're into the games, the Archie comics, the IDW comics, or any of the animated shows. Did you know that the comics Amy Rose was introduced as an annoying child who was the president of the Sonic fan club?

I imagine looking at his heart was a lot like that scene in the Grinch.

Vector, Charmy, Espio, and Mighty showed up in a Sonic the Hedgehog movie tie-in comic. I think it came out before the second movie? It could follow them maybe.

@a4ng3l@lemmy.world 8 hours ago:

We had to rely on so many tricks when tinder was not a thing

@a4ng3l@lemmy.world now:

I also never partook into this sort of approach

I think I safely assumed you were in support of, and possibly engaging in, that approach based on how fervently you were advocating for it. If you are not supportive of it you should have used less self-inclusive language, or been slightly critical at some point. Say stuff like "people did x" instead of "we did x" for example.

To be clear: I never said it wasn't happening. I said if one were to behave like that it would be called out as weird. Granted, I was in the dating scene at the tail end of the "Pre-Tinder" era. Sites like PoF and eHarmony were around, but lots of dating and mingling was still being initiated in the IRL sphere. Online dating was still seen as a new thing for nerds after all. I am sure things were different in the early 90s and before.

Something being, as you've described, standard procedure not so long ago does not make it inherently good. Doesn't make it inherently bad either. Just have to reassess stuff every now and then.

Well I hope you're either happily in a relationship or some kind of merry recluse because things are different now and I doubt your "tricks" will work so well. We're trying out this new thing where we act like women are people, and we pretend that they don't want to be prayed upon by thirsty dudes at every venue. Not everyone is on board yet but it's catching on.

The block thing is kind of sad. Is that how you normally go through mild disagreements? Blocking and being blocked? Cause that would suck. It's cool guy, I am not hurt. I personally don't want to live in an echo chamber of only things I agree with. How would I get into arguments with strangers?

P.S. I don't actually think this was an argument. That was just for the joke.

you went out with them to smoke, asked / give some lighter and voila.

So you didn't just barge into their group conversation. Cause that would be weird right?

You should also give up on this whole "wizend internet elder" schtick. I was also going to bars and youth places before Tinder, and behaviour like that of the 4Chan guy would definitely be called out as strange and unwelcome.

The Royal Foundry is a Canadian alternative pop quartet band whose core is the Edmonton couple Jared Salte and Bethany Schumacher. They initially formed as a folk duo but, in 2015, began a significant revitalization and revision of their sound, incorporating elements of 1990's Brit-Pop with power-pop stylings of groups like Arcade Fire, and 1970's Progressive Rock elements inspired by groups like Yes and Supertramp Their music has been described as alt rock, indie rock, alternative pop, and Synth Pop.

I've been playing a bunch of Rusted Moss lately. It's a Twin Stick Shooter Metroidvania, which is appreciably different from the Hack and Slash type I normally play. Getting used to mouse-and-keyboarding a platform heavy game took a bit. And boy are there platforms.

While elements of Metroidvanias are there, this game leans way further into the platforming. I would say it's closer to Celeste than Hollow Knight. Imagine Celeste, but instead of a magic dash and climbing gear Madeline had a gun and a chatty grappling hook.

Anyways, I've been enjoying the heck outta this game and wanted to share. While you're here I will accept any and all Metroidvania recommendations. Except for Cookie Cutter probably.

So many books have characters remark "it was well past moonrise", or something else equally ridiculous, to show the passage of time at night. ~~The moon cycle is a month long (~27 days), not some paltry 24 hours.~~ If you know any authors please spread the word. Together we can stamp out this astronomical disillusionment!

[EDIT]

A smarter than me commenter below pointed out that, due to the way days work, it does indeed rise and set once a day. Hard to do a complete rotation and keep a celestial body in the sky. Womp womp, I am silly.

I should have instead argued that moon rise and set are not linked to sun rise and set, and that the moon doesn't exclusively rise and set at night. It is possible to have the moon out during the day time. They are on different schedules is all.

Sgt. Fern Spellman couldn't stay for any more questions as there was a report of a caricature artist welding a pencil two streets over.

Seriously, I don't think that thing was sharp at all.

This looks great. I love the raccoon take on classic RPG classes like Mess Magus (Wizard) and Dumpster Diviner (Cleric). You can get the PDF for as little as $10USD.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Wet Ink Games. I just like raccoons and TTRPGs.
