Their mandate is that they're selling the games with a DRM free installer. If it's delisted, you can still install that game DRM free on anything else as long as you have the files.

Get a USB stick with a cool design, put the installer on it, yeet it in a video game box, throw some box art on it, and you basically have the physical game.

If it feels like the physical game is something else entirely, but I think their mandate is being lived up to just fine :)

I think there's a difference between "these are a huge waste of time, and always has been. Reddit slop!"

And

"Man, these comics aren't for me. The punchline never lands, or the art style is a bit strange and takes me out of it", etc.

The first kind of negativity contributes very little to any sort of discussion other than to be inflammatory. The second one actually invites the discussion you mention in the comment I'm replying to.

'least.. that's how I see it.

Whoa, this one was really hard for me. I was like... One away on so many, yet it wasn't even close to the connection I thought it was

Sorry, mega hectic day at work today. Just wanted to say I really, really REALLY appreciate your answer.

I am using the correct drivers for Nvidia, but I dunno why I'm getting such weird framerates. Probably because I shy away from upscaling and the like. That being said, I do like the idea of AMDs stability and openness to driver handling. I'll have to chew on this for a bit, but thank you!

GPU questions (pawb.social)

Hi y'all! I've been using Nvidia GPUs for about all my life, but have been hearing how AMD usually plays nicer with Linux.

I'm somewhat new to this OS and all the distros, and I was wondering if you could help me with understanding some of the differences.

I currently have a 4080 from Nvidia, and I use it for both content creation and gaming. Back when I was picking out my new GPU, I wanted to pick the 7900 XTX from AMD, but I was on windows back then and the two GPUs were the exact same price in my region, so I figured I might as well pick that.

Fast forward to today and I am noticing that the 4080 is struggling a bit with games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. (I'm getting forty fps on medium/high settings with 1440p) and I see some people suggest it is because of the translation overhead of Nvidia via Proton, and that this would be reduced with AMDs GPUs, but I'm not entirely sure how much there is to gain here, really.

So.. TL:DR; What is gained and what is lost if I were to sell the 4080 and switch to AMDs 7900XTX or 9070XT?

I'm on ~~arch~~ Nobara, btw

Oh man. Roberta Williams well and truly is a veritable legend in the field. Mad respect for her. I hope she gets enough to get treatment (though I hate that she has to)

Nah, no worries. As you said yourself, the first case is probably easy to find... And besides, the series is so old at this point, it's entirely on me for not having played it yet. I've owned them since the PS Vita days. I just straight up haven't prioritised it yet.

I think I'm at the top of mount stupid, because I'm certainly not competent.

I started with Linux Mint and daily drove that for a while. Really liked it too. Then I noticed that screen sharing ssssuuucked when playing games, and since Mint's Wayland didn't want to work on my machine, I decided to jump ship.

I'm currently on Nobara (Glorious Eggroll's Fedora flavor) and.. it's just pretty easy to work with.

Or maybe I'm at the know nothing stage, along with PopOS

But I've got two doubts remaining.

Currently, I'm running Windows 11, but I'd still like the ability to dual boot for certain games which don't necessarily work with Linux for various reasons. Is it possible to move a windows install to a different drive and then install Linux on the main drive instead?

If yes, how do I do it?

Second doubt is if I'll have many issues daily driving Linux if I have an Nvidia card

Hi, guys. I work at a school where we use iPads for music education. We've got a bit of an issue though. Some kids delete other people's music projects, and that obviously sucks.

Is there a way to lock certain files so the kids can give their own files their own password protection or something so nobody gets their stuff sabotaged?

Other creative solutions are appreciated as well!

Thanks guys!

Edit: The music room has a Mac, so thanks to your helpful suggestions, we're gonna try with the AirDrop method where they drop to the host machine that the teacher has access to.

Hi, new here to this instance. Also first post on Lemmy, I guess? Sorry if this is the wrong place. There was no "games"-community here, and I wanted to share with the local instance.

Anyway, wanted to recommend some games I've played recently that are somewhat "furry" in their themes.

  • Pseudoregalia A really fun N64 inspired metroidvania where you play as a goat-lady who has to escape a dream world. Extremely satisfying movement and optional costumes to earn. It's great!

  • Corn Kidz 64 A really fun N64 inspired collect-a-thon where you play as a goat-kid who has to escape a dream world. Extremely satisfying movement and... Uh... They sound really similar now that I write it out, but they're real fun.

  • FUGA: Melodies of Steel Tactical RPG where you control children in a big-ass tank. It takes place during """World War 2""" and sports perma-death for the children. Really dark, but really good too. Sequel recently came out too.
