That's terrifying. It is a low number, but that it is non zero and the presence of a manual control would change the outcome is not good.
Of course you could find an old car with manual windows, but that would lack quite a few other safety features that have saved many more lives.

I agree that this design should have never passed any safety board. That the ability to open the door can be disabled or made much more difficult.

Seems to me that if you can discriminate on gender identity and sexual orientation, you should be able to discriminate on any basis at all. They tried to apply the building code laws. In Florida, if you do a renovation and keep the foundation and one wall, you can build to the code at the time of construction. These "protections" never applied to assessment and tax.
Many houses in that exact area have been bought for cheap and flipped using this work around. They end up with a modern house but can avoid having to spend extra for upgraded storm mitigation, plumbing, and electric.

This only works if everyone is honorable and defends their power. Just the writing of this bill (and others) shows the legislature's willingness to cede their own power. I have little confidence that the current SCOTUS bench will do anything to keep their own. Add to that a weakness in our 3 branch system that only one branch has the power of force.
