Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt called for careful consideration of the way forward to protect Samoa from religious extremism and violence.

Anecdotal for sure, but someone I know was brought up Catholic in Samoa. Aged about five he was caught in the heinous sin of playing football on the Sabbath. His punishment was kneeling on concrete for hours holding a Bible in each outstretched arm. I doubt there's worse "religious extremism and violence" going on than torturing a child for playing.

If I'm baking or cooking to a recipe with unusual ingredients I definitely make a list. I've got a master list of staples on my phone with check boxes that I sometimes use. But mostly I wing it. Top tip: never do your grocery shopping when you're hungry.

What worries me is that these Boko Haram arses have kidnapped lots of children and young women over the years - I fear some could be killed in these strikes.

Pretty good. Just a small group and a good amount of presents and food/drink (ie not too much). The best part has been riotous card games after eating. Tomorrow there's a buffet lunch with more people coming over, then I head home the day after.

I was completely underwhelmed by Times Square. For a start, it isn't really a square? It just seemed to be a street, and not an interesting street. Big billboards yes, but so what. Recently I visited Tokyo, and took a look at the Shibuya Scramble. That's more like what I expected Times Square to be.

"Organic" especially pisses me off when applied to honey. There's no such thing as organic honey. Bees have a range of three miles or more, and they will forage on whatever they like.

Sock blankets (sh.itjust.works)
 

Thrilled to have found a Lemmy knitting group! I'm a sock obsessive, I just love knitting socks, so I've ended up with an staggering amount of "scrap" yarn. The solution - blankets. This is my second Cosiest Memories project and this time I have a Plan. The first one was truly random, with lots of placement errors. When it was finished I did a dark icord edge, and suddenly it was smart!

So for the second one I'm adding an inner border of that same colour and (eventually) will finish with icord. I might even knit some more socks!
