I don't want to sync my bookmarks. The sites I want bookmarked on my desktop are not the same as the sites I want bookmarked on my phone nor the sites I want bookmarked on my work laptop.

As an occasional user, I am sad to see it go. Are there any other sites out there to maintain a list of links that I may find useful in the future? With a web UI and not self hosted?

Do other games need a major performance patch?

Isn't Steam even more always online?

Obviously! From the makers of Strategy

It is not an unexpected outcome. The Celtics are up against the wall and want to win for Tatum. Motivations fade and fatigue catches up to them, so I would not give them a chance in the series.

I have not watched the series, so can anyone point out any particularly egregious events? I am prone to think that Green complaining bloody murder means the series was well reffed.

Yes, I also think physical releases are best (at least for how I play games).

That has nothing to do with anything. I am specifically talking about digital copies. Last I checked, I could not take a digital 3DS purchase I made and give it to a friend to play on their system.

The (only) advantage of Game Carts over digital is that you can resell them and lend them to people outside of your (digital) family.

Do you have a source for Nintendo only having one cart size? I have heard people saying that Nintendo does offer multiple cart sizes, but they are all (relatively) expensive.

This to me feels like Nintendo wants a stronger grip on digital key redistributions by adding a physical element into it to screw over key and account resellers. People are much less likely to sell a physical item when compared to a fully digital one.

From what I have heard, every first party Nintendo game is coming out with a game-on-cartridge release while most third party games are key carts.

My take on the situation is that publishers complained about the cost of large capacity Switch 2 cartridges, so Nintendo created Game Key carts for them to use. Once they existed for large size games, why would a publisher not use them for all games? Complaints from a vocal minority that buys the game anyways?

Exactly why they put it. You would first need to win a trial to get the clause voided and then win another trial to get actual damages or you can go to arbitration and get a modest settlement. Most people will take the latter.

What sort of half assed reporting came up with this story? This is not a new policy. If I remember right, Nintendo added a forced arbitration clause to their EULA about 10 years ago (I would try to find an exact date, but Google is flooded with articles parroting this story).

It came up with regards to Joy-Con drift in 2017: https://law.justia.com/cases/federal/district-courts/washington/wawdce/2:2020cv01694/292704/21/

Should companies be allowed to force arbitration as a shield against all law suits? Hell fucking no, but their lawyers say they can, so any company with a EULA written by a half decent lawyer includes the wording.

At this point, the only reason anyone would complain that a company includes the clause is rage bait.

Major points:

  • Price increases are coming.
  • They will pause producing most games except for cheap to manufacture, card-only games.
  • For games with app adaptations, upcoming expansions will get a digital release before physical.
  • They will design, develop, and prepare future games to hit the ground running when tariffs come down.

TL;DR:

  • Joy-Cons are more comfortable for adult hands, though still not as big as other systems.
  • Mouse mode joy-cons are awkward. The buttons are small and there is no place to rest your other fingers and palm.
  • You will want to have a table if you are playing mouse-oriented games like Metroid Prime 4 and Civ 7.
  • Graphics seem better than the Steam Deck, worse than a PS4 Pro, but will improve as games are optimized.
  • Mouse aim works well in Metroid.
  • Mario Kart World is good and Knockout Tour is a fun addition to the game.

An etiquette question for the community: if you attend a game night at your friendly local game store, how much do you buy from the store?

Obviously, game store is not (just) hosting board games to give people a place to hang out and have fun. They are doing it to attract new customers and get people to buy games. If many people come but no one spends, the store might decide that they need to cancel the event and schedule more CCGs and minis. So how often do you buy a game at your local store to express your gratitude for the owners letting you use their space?

During the pandemic, I rebuilt my computer but with GPU prices being insanely inflated, I decided to limp along with my old GPU (a GeForce GTX 760). The issue is that I have a 4k monitor and my current card can barely handle my desktop, never mind a game.

I have heard that prices are coming back down to a sane level, so I am looking for part suggestions. I am not looking to play new games or ultra high settings, but I would want to at least be able to handle older/indie games, on medium settings, at a steady 30 FPS.

I am looking for a note talking app to keep work notes in. My requirements are:

  • Allow hierarchical organization of notes (like project1, project1/build, project1/configure) and easy to navigate to different notes.
  • Allow basic formatting (heading, code block).
  • Run locally
  • (Optionally) Have a table of contents for quick navigation

Obsidian looked promising and had the additional benefit of storing notes in Markdown format for easy export. Unfortunately, I would need to buy a commercial license in order to store work-related information.

MobaPad is a Switch controller and game case maker (that I have never heard of), so they should have reliable info. They said that:

  • The Switch 2 will have physical cartridges and the slot will also be able to accept Switch 1 games.
  • There will be a new button on the back of each Joy-Con, behind the triggers.
  • There will be a new button on the right Joy-Con, by the Home button.

Are there any good April Fools jokes today? For example, a few years ago Google announced a sewage based ISP (i.e. flush some fiber optic cable down the toilet and they would fish it out and connect it).

The only one I have come across is IGN article about the Nintendo Virtual Boy Pro.

TL;DR: The author asserts that Nintendo is able to be so creative because they retain employees long term rather than hiring and firing like other game developers.

Some excerpts that I found interesting:

All of the designers of the original Super Mario Bros. on the original Nintendo Entertainment System are credited designers on Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Back in 2013, the late Satoru Iwata — the former president of Nintendo — said this at a shareholder meeting:

"If we reduce the number of employees for better short-term financial results, employee morale will decrease, and I sincerely doubt employees who fear that they may be laid off will be able to develop software titles that could impress people around the world."

Has anyone ever shopped at the online store Gate Play? I have never heard of them.

I saw an out of print expansion being sold below MSRP and wanted to see if anyone knew if the site was a scam. I am going to pay by credit card and read the terms of service, but don't want to have to bother with charge backs if I am not their first victim.
