anti-help-anyone segment of our society

This is the biggest problem (IMHO) to getting government to assist anyone that is not already rich. The rich get help - i.e. which gets a special tax break:

  1. Walmart opening a new store (and driving all the little people out of business)?
  2. The little business owner who hires 2-5 employees?

The haves scream they are being "robbed" if you suggest taking any of "their tax dollars" to help the have-nots. It's not "their tax dollars", it's "our tax dollars".

Me, still in university, trying to tell 3 graduates (all computer science grads) what a "data exception error" in COBOL was.

Unless it's a ball-peen hammer.

Another example is "Don't work overtime, the taxes cost more than you make."

Unless your marginal tax rate for your overtime is > 100%, that's simply false. Given that all marginal income tax rates in the US are < 100% (that I know of).

Peacocks are what you need my friend. You'll think ducks are very quiet quite soon.

Well, a quick search turned up this: Vacuum Arc

However, like the above comment, it seems to refer to freeing electrons from the conducts, so, IMHO, you no longer have a vacuum.

If you could somehow maintain a perfect vacuum; I wonder how this concept Virtual particle would come into play (or if it would at all).

With sufficient voltage, everything is a conductor.

With insufficient voltage, everything is an insulator.

Neither may be conducive to those roles, but everything has some conductivity and some resistance (super conductors being a possible exception).

Our utilities are paid for by sales tax.

And since sovcits don't pay taxes, utilities are just completely free. /s
