Any sort of festive food: for example, chocolate, mince pies, etc. Lindor truffles are nice and a small box is affordable, or perhaps some Guylian chocolate seashells. If you know she's into something specific (a posh marmalade or jam, for example) you could go with that instead. It demonstrates you chose something whilst thinking of them.

Such gifts are relatively affordable, easy to share and almost always appreciated.

Quite! We check the water in our tree base daily, just for the peace of mind of knowing we don't have a 7-foot firelighter in the house.

We have a video of my wife's mum and dad lighting the candles on the Christmas tree in 1962. It was apparently very common well into the '60s.

Everyone needs a Bob in their life, but few of us are that fortunate.

It's a niche topic but this is a genuinely well-written and weirdly exciting book considering we all know how the story ends. A thoughtful theory on how the damage to Titanic occurred when she hit the iceberg.

D'you know what? I think you might be right.

The books are very much all about the sexual tension between Robin and Cormoran; the plots are almost an afterthought! I struggled with The Inkblack Heart because of the text format (multiple chat room conversations happening at the same time) and I never really engaged with the plot. All the others have been enjoyable if overly long and they can take a while to get going (which is just JKR's style). As a Blue Öyster Cult fan, I really liked Career of Evil! Obvs you have to read them in order to understand the wider character and story arcs.

"Everyone" is a very, very high bar.

America could become unrecognisable in 20 weeks or less.

I'd suggest it'll only end either when you want it to, or possibly when you move out into your own place. Whenever he stays with us at Christmas, we will still fill a stocking with small gifts for our son who's nearly 30. It's not that we don't see him as an adult; it's simply a way to remember tradition and show love.

DARK every time. Currently on my 9th re-watch and still haven't found anything better.

I've just checked. Even if you've deleted your profile on Reddit, the search still identifies your posts. I don't really care as I've left the platform but I was mildly surprised.

"I don't think Charlie is such a bad choice of name, even for a girl," I told her.

"You should talk to my sisters, Alfa, Bravo and Delta," she replied.

Breakfast: Greek yoghurt and honey, a ham and mushroom omelette, croissants and coffee. Don't want to overdo it.

Lunch: chicken souvlaki and ouzo. Careful, let's not ruin my appetite for later.

Dinner: three of everything from the buffet, multiple bread rolls, a large bowl of chips, seven desserts and a beer.

It's got notes in the margins too.

In Herefordshire at least. They're fucking everywhere!

Can also be used as a time-out zone for naughty toddlers.

Off their first album, published in 1972. Still superb in every way.

Discovered when watching Netflix's DARK.
