It's not even real. It's a fabricated story to push an agenda of a special interest group.
Edit: to clarify, the news story is real, the mom's story isn't. It's just a fiction to push the agenda.

As does scissors before paper, since paper is just one of the many things you can cut with scissors
People eat and talk about McDonalds every day, but that doesn't make it haute cuisine.
That's fair criticism. In the comic at hand, you're right, they're not a non-existent strawman, as this strawman does exist. The apt critique for this specific comic is more about how blaringly obvious the conclusion that is being presented as revelatory is, so I shouldn't have used the word "non-existent" in this specific critique. Very fair, cheers.
edit: typo
I think part of why it feels so non-impactful to you is because 9/11 truly set off a chain of events that has led to the situation we're in, including the many tragedies you mention in your comment. Of course 9/11 doesn't exist in a vacuum, and it itself is just a one part of a much more complex web of actions and decisions, but the fact remains that for most common people 9/11 was an absolute tipping point after which nothing is the same. The sort of horrors you're talking about in the world in the wake of 9/11 just weren't the same kind of reality in the world before, at least not with the same intents and reactions thereto. You're right to think it's strange the way people react to and hold 9/11 because you're never experienced the world before it. And to be clear, I am not saying the world was perfect before or that there weren't horrors before, because their were, but 9/11 became a catalyst for so much reactionary evil and overreach and horror that it simply is non-comparable to what came before.
important note: this entire comment and perspective implies an enormous Western post-colonial bias. People in different parts of the world had and have an enormously different reality especially in regards to this event and I will not pretend to be able to speak to their experience.
You aren't even using that term right; I'm not asking for you to engage me in shit, nor am I feigning civility as I've been pretty clearly aggressive in my stance and told you to fuck off. Again, enormous pot/kettle projection. But hey, I'll save us both the trouble and do the blocking for you. 👍
Pot/Kettle much? You haven't even engaged with my criticism, since I never once have called pizzacake's comics either "crazy" or "irrelevant" or any synonym thereof; if anything they're too pedestrian and "low-hanging fruit," the exact opposite of those critiques.
And you see, this right here is why some of us don't want pizzacake's bullshit here; it is seemingly impossible for people to engage with criticism of them honestly, for some unknown reason.
I have never once sought out a pizzacake comic to shit on. I have never once criticized pizzacake for anything outside the content of the art she has personally entered into the public square or her conduct in relation to said art. All I have ever done is engage with the art brought into the public square for consideration. This is c/comicstrips, not c/comicstripsycophantry, ostensibly a community for the discussion and consideration of this media form, not just a place for empty yes-manning.
So as for you, feel free to take your own advice and just block me if you find my content distasteful, but as for your assertion, you can kindly fuck right off with that.
You will notice that it was not pizzacake that posted this.
Also I think we need a reset if we're at the point where critiquing and criticizing media is suddenly "being butthurt."
I will never understand this.
What job do you have where your boss would care and you would get in trouble for the word "Fuck" appearing on your screen where you wouldn't get in trouble for just browsing Lemmy in general?
This has always felt like a solution in search of a problem to me.
Bringing pizzacake to Lemmy and not expecting her sycophants to follow is like stealing a block of cheese from a rat and not expecting it to follow you.
Okay so I know I'm not a spider but like, where do I sign up for these trials?
