Tldr; If only things where better, things would be better...

Marathon was announced a some years ago as an extraction shooter with very interesting graphics. As a teen, who didn't even know about the franchise, the art style hooked me greatly.

Fast forward last month, Marathon comes out in a public alpha. And it looks ... Meh. In comparison to what gaming had to offer at the same time it felt dry.

To add fucking pepper spray to injury they used stolen art from some girl named antireal (relevant thumbnail artist). What gives?

Arc Raider is another extraction shooter that did a public test recently and the players loved it. From what I've seen, people are really excited to play this for real.

I'm so sad. To think we could have both games thriving. Competing on the same landscape to offer the best experience. Or even collaborating as leaders of the extract shooter genre.

I don't see how they can get back on their feet to be honest. This looks as dead as concord to me (that was sad too)

At least embark seems to know their craft so I'm still exited for them.

If apples wants to kids, they should stop their malicious psycho practices aimed toward kids. The stuff that makes too much kids want an iPhone over anything else. But I guess that's more bc of marketing than bc they are kids...

Fortnite Battle Royale /s

Hello, I've had this French edition of root since Christmas and I've been having plenty fun with it.

Anybody knows what these extra tokens are for?

There is:

  • a bear
  • the dynasty leaders
  • a cat leader
  • 5 castles
  • 2 rivers with a riverfolk
  • 4 animals with a wheelbarrow

I don't need them for playing the game so I'm guessing they're here for bonus rules, but I've never seen anything mentioning them. Is this for house rules?

I heard about the whole thing being kind of uplifting. Something about a hopefull view of society.

Which season should one with no prior knowledge of star trek start from?

Not limited to SO, can be friends, family, etc...

If at all... I love it, overall

  • it's been really hard to get a win (in a good way)
  • the healing is sparse
  • the map has big open areas
  • the weapons hits real hard

Got a couple of good games today. The only thing is that the players aren't spread enough so even though the ambiance is really enjoyable, when you want some action it can be a bit dull.

Oh and snipers are back wohow!

Hello gamedevs!

I've been making games as a hobby for some time. For assets, I would usually just rip whatever I found would fit best from the internet and edit it afterwards.

Now this is great (I think)for personal projects and the likes. But when you want to make them public that's not possible so whenever I'm building something for a public (free or paid) I make everything by myself or I use CC0 assets (or CC-BY with attributions in credits).

One thing I wondered is how much can I straight up use a sound effect without problems?

I have multiple scenarios:

Scenario a

I rip 1 to 2 seconds from a music. Apply some effects (reverb and filters for exemple) and add another sound on top of it. Would it be problematic to sell a game with this?

Scenario b

I record/rip a sound from a game, maybe I apply an effect on top of it then dump it into my game. Would it be problematic to sell a game with this?

Scenario c

I record a part of a music (like scen. A) and I merge it with 5 other sounds. I then apply a lot of filters and then, when in game, the sound is played through audio alteration functions using player inputs and game state as parameters. The original sound would not be recognizable. Would it be problematic to sell a game with this?

The grand question here is how much of an art piece has to be destroyed when building on top of it for it to be deemed original or something. But that's not the question of this post.

Thank you for reading this ^^

Hope some of you can answer this or give some guidance.

PS: I really don't mind giving attributions, in fact I really like being able to redirect to skilled artist through my work. I don't want to avoid doing it, I want to know the legal troubles of using samples from found audio.
