Their work has centered on osteocalcin, a hormone produced by some of the same cells that make up bone. His and others’ earlier research has suggested that osteocalcin helps regulate diverse functions such as metabolism, muscle function during exercise, and fertility.

In this sense, osteocalcin works like a lot like other hormones produced by the glands and organs that make up our endocrine system. Because of this, Karsenty and his team have argued that the skeleton should be considered an endocrine organ. That line of thinking led Karsenty’s team to theorize that our skeletons could have evolved to help us better respond to stress, too, since that’s another pivotal function of the endocrine system. And if that’s the case, then osteocalcin should play a leading role there as well.

So they exposed mice to predator urine and immediately saw osteocalcin in the mice’s blood.

The original article is from Gizmodo. If anyone else is curious!

Huh.

Does anyone else think that ChatGPT is still using the data, they’re just not referencing Reddit directly?

This is how you can tell Reddit’s $200+/share price is insane. Over 10% of its value dropped based on a different unprofitable company’s references to ingested content.

Yikes!!

Oh excellent point, I hadn’t thought about it.

I think it’s different for parts of living things.

Shelling is removing the entire shell. “Peeling” something doesn’t mean adding peel, and “pitting” means removing the pit.

However, for bodies, removing skin in general is “skinning,” but if you lose the skin of just your hand it’s called de-gloving. Removing the bowels isn’t called “boweling,” but “disembowling.”

If I said someone did a “shirting,” maybe I’m weird but I’d think of getting hit with a shirt before removing someone’s shirt. And in hockey, a “jerseying” is more about pulling the jersey over the head than removing it.

I think the Obama 2028 is intended to anger people on the right, since neither Obama nor Trump are legally allowed to run for a third time.

Ignoring the “unironically” in the title… which is confused.

It’s intended to be ironic, not “can we go back to when people liked us,” but as a response to Trump 2028 hats mentioned in the image.

It’s stupid either way, but how far down the confused rabbit hole can they go, honestly? No one is going to unironically wear an Obama 2028 hat.

Indeed, chaps by definition have no ass.

They’re assless pants, really.

Tangentially, I hate it that pulling someone’s pants down became popular and was called “pantsing.” You’re not putting pants ON the person…

I have been playing Crusader Kings III a bit, though I don’t know if I’m driven to continue.

I appreciate how complex the game is, and I find the kinda-historical aspects interesting… but I’m not sure if it’s a game I want to actively play, or a game that I’m glad exists but isn’t really for me.

This is how it came across to me too but maybe there’s context I’m missing.

A younger or less-experienced person comes up, says “I drew this like you draw!” and you’re mad? That’s a you problem.

Can’t forget paving the rose garden to make an eXcLuSiVe ClUb. Now not only do we get “lobbyists” but also “club members.”

Pathetic douchebags.

I played some Crusader Kings III.

I haven’t played much (under 10 hours) but I started one of the “easy” starts and it isn’t going poorly. I always hit the point in complex games where I’m not exactly sure what to do.

I had that same style of Braun for quite a while!

I have had a Panasonic Arc5 electric razor for 7 1/2 years now and it’s not showing any signs of slowing down.

I replaced the blades in 2022, even though I didn’t feel like I had to, and it was like getting a brand new razor.
