The DNC is fucked because they've learned absolutely nothing since 2016. They've pushed progressives to the center or out of the way to the extent that they cannot create an appealing candidate. They are still banking on "They're Not Trump" being a winning strategy and they're hoping they can do bupkis for the struggling masses and get away with it.

Obama 2028 is a sad message. It says "Remember when people liked us? Can we just go back to that, please? No change on my end, just uh like us again, please?"

[–] calliope@retrolemmy.com 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I think the Obama 2028 is intended to anger people on the right, since neither Obama nor Trump are legally allowed to run for a third time.

Ignoring the “unironically” in the title… which is confused.

It’s intended to be ironic, not “can we go back to when people liked us,” but as a response to Trump 2028 hats mentioned in the image.

It’s stupid either way, but how far down the confused rabbit hole can they go, honestly? No one is going to unironically wear an Obama 2028 hat.

Obama 2028 is a sad message.

Uh... if you like your bank bailouts, you can keep them.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 3 days ago

Bank bailouts are American while helping citizens is not 😭

Look at Newsom’s current voter outreach. A number of Dems are openly trying to outflank the fascists on their right. All they care about is getting those Silicon Valley mega donations.

[–] DirkMcCallahan@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Terrible idea. "The Republicans are proposing that we ignore the Constitution, so the Dems should too."

There's a time when tit-for-tat is valid and necessary (e.g., gerrymandering blue states to keep up with red state shenanigans). This is not one of those times.

I mean. I would vote for michelle.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 31 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'd vote for a golden retriever over any Republican, but we should aim higher until the candidate is picked.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Well even in a primary. I like her. It would be funny that she could use obama 2028 stuff.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

She's perfectly likeable, but if she were to be a president similar to her husband, I'd expect a successor similar to Trump.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

well she is black so....yeah. that was the unforgivable sin for the right. Then also a woman. oh my. seriously though I get what you mean with obama but I still count him as second place for actual sitting presidents that I have experienced. So carter forward.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't think it's even just racism or sexism, though those are definitely a factor. We've got major issues with how our laws and economy are structured that Obama didn't make much of an effort to address. People recognized that their lives are trending toward being shittier, so they rejected more of the same in politics. Democrats successfully got Bernie out of the race, so voters turned the other way toward Trump. In all the polling I know of, Bernie beat Trump in a landslide.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago

Well that last part was after but basically my order of presidents for my life is biden - obama - carter - clinton -bush snr - reagan - bush jr -trump. Granted its a tough call on both the high end and the low end. Especially since the further back in the past the more a bad decision can reek havoc. My big problem with obama is not reasserting individual liberty by getting rid of the 9/11 legislation losses and going after Aaron Swartz. Much of it was to much trying to work with republicans and trying to win over their supporters by being "tough". Clinton honestly I think got off easy relative to other democrats because of the time period he got and even though he had a lot of bs resistance I don't think it compares to the others terms. Carter really got screwed with the embargo situation and reagans manipulations.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 days ago

Can we not jump on the same dynastic thinking as the Republicans, please?

Also why do people keep mentioning her when she's spent the last decade saying she would never want it?

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 26 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Uh...no. We don't want Obama to have a third term just because Republicans really like authoritarianism. Or does OP not understand what unironically means?

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 9 points 3 days ago

Also Obama is a corporate stooge who will fix nothing and do nothing.

I gotta say, there are a handful of Dems legit out on the front lines struggling against the violence of this expansive police state. They need help. They need big crowds of angry people ready to back them up in these street brawls with masked goons. If you can put together a crowd of a few hundred people to show up in front of an ICE facility and shut it down, you can put whatever fucking hats you want on them. I don't think it matters, but if you believe merch is what Americans need to get motivated more power to you.

But the idea that Hakeem Jeffries just needs a funny hat for his next stare-down with Trump? :-/

Their faces: "Ha ha! Serious threats to democracy are so funny!"

vance always looks like he's wearing a fake beard

Yes, and sell me some instead of asking for donations 10 times a day.

It's all fun and games 'till Obama gets shot at...
Don't put him in the crosshairs of those extremists, they might take it far to serious.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 3 days ago

Can you imagine the lack of outrage that would occur if he did get shot?

But honestly why would they go for a Netflix producer?

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 3 days ago

How about dems stop trying to appease the right to get the mythical moderate republican vote?

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

The only reason this is a good idea is because it MIGHT piss Trump off enough to make him want to hold another election to prove he could beat the cool black guy in a popularity contest. But based on the state of the motherfucker's visibly declining health there's an exceedingly slim chance he's even alive by then. Now would Obama wipe the floor with JD Vance in a fair election? Not a doubt in my mind he's the most charismatic politician of my lifetime and Vance is unlikeable and creepy. But those election will not be free and fair, part of the reason they are moving as fast as they are now is because they know they need to consolidate as much as possible before Trump croaks and the gravy train dries up.

[–] florencia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 3 days ago

Trigger Warning - Sexism

spoilerIt wouldn't be a fair election because Trump has never beaten a man /s
