To me as a European... I'm wondering if baseball is the national sport or American football?

I am deaf in one ear because I stood too close to the bass bin in a notorious London club. I have a hearing aid that helps a bit.

Katsuri Methi. An absolute essential for a decent curry. Also Hing aka Devil's Piss, if for no other reason than the name.

It's a small thing, but it avoids unnecessary repair bills. It felt good too!

I went all in and cleaned the drawer for the detergent, too.

But the babies need ventilators!

A couple of years ago, unless you include post-band night as a club. In that case, it would be a few months ago. I'm GenX, and clubbing was pretty big for us.

Chances are, you are part of the 10%

No, existing laws are still in place. It does mean that techbros will be able to steal your art, though as she was fired for not rubber stamping that.

Tell me about airplane cups!

I'm a bit surprised this is news - our work dos were always on Thursday. Better to be hung over on company time.

That's true, but this report specifically excludes London.

The right have devised and extremely effective strategy: spam the Internet with an absurd amount of hit pieces against the left (and liberal!) politicians. They monitor the reaction, and as soon as one takes hold, they push it - hard.

The left have a special talent for not showing up or wasting their vote on a no hope candidate. This strategy plays straight into that weakness.

Some examples: incubators for babies during the Brexit vote, being pro-Palestine during the 2019 UK election. Being anti-Palestine during the US election. Any reason to sit it out... and let facists win.

We need to wake up and realise that sitting it out is exactly what the nazis want. They don't expect you to vote for them. Just sitting it out is enough.

Yes, better left-wing candidates would be great - but that's on us. Getting rid of FPTP in the UK might help. Either way, we need to wake up to this strategy and start being smarter. Grass root campaigns to get better candidates, sure, but for fucks sake, turn out and vote!

We want to use our Deutschland ticket to travel to Stralsund with our bikes, taking the 1755 RE5. Is it normally very busy in July? I don't think we can reserve seats on that service...

Thanks!

I was getting disappointed with the quality of Converse boots before this whole thing kicked off. My partner suggested I try the French brand Paladium. The quality is much better. Apparently, the French paras use them. All I can say is they are more comfortable and last longer than my Converse ever did.

The shitshow in the Whitehouse yesterday really brought it to light - the U.S. can no longer be trusted with our secrets. Its time to leave 5 eyes. I would create a new intelligence sharing union with the other 3 members, on condition that they also leave. Inviting France and other EU states might also make sense.

I have lots of trouble with my Sony XM1000XM4 headphones since the Plasma 6 update. I'm pretty sure the pipewire was updated to version 2 at the same time I pulled the KDE upgrade.

At first the issues were manageable, but annoying: If I switched from listening to music to headset mode to take a call in Google Meet, the microphone didn't work. If I switched to headphone mode and then back again to headset mode, the microphone worked again. I could continue using bluetooth with this workaround.

Recently, the situation has got much worse - I can't get the microphone to work at all, and the sound will also stop working randomly. My workaround now is to connect my headphones to the audio out of my laptop.

I've checked pipewire logs and the only things I saw were xrun warnings, which I don't believe would break everything completely.

Does anyone have similar issues or debugging tips? I've tried Googling/Duck Duck Going this for months, and I've not found anyone with similar symptoms.

This cartoon was printed 110 years ago today on September 1, 1914.

World War 1 was in progress, though it wasn't called that yet. On the Western Front, Imperial Germany's invasion was underway and the French and British armies had been in retreat for almost a week. Among the engagements of this day was a skirmish near Néry, where a dismounted British cavalry division fought a dismounted German cavalry division. The outnumbered British forces prevailed, and three British soldiers were later awarded the prestigious Victoria Cross. The French and British forces continued to retreat, but they were doing so in an orderly manner, and in a few days they would be ready to counterattack in one of the most significant battles of the century.

Meanwhile, in rapidly-urbanizing America, Everett True was beginning to wonder if cars were a good idea after all.

A species of owl which usually breeds in Scotland and Russia has produced a brood in an area of Kent for the first time in five years.

Short-eared owls have reared two broods at Elmley Nature Reserve, on the Isle of Sheppey.

The birds often stay at the site for winter before heading north during summer, but weather conditions and food abundance has seen them stay put on Sheppey.

Any idea when this will hit tumbleweed? I'm really looking forward to this release!
