Welcome to another one of my posts. So, I had this one friend, and things were going really well! She was actually LGBT and technically Korean-American so she advocated for stuff related to that. She was really nice and kind and I actually really liked talking to her.
Well, gradually, she started to support more of Trump’s talking points. This included following his account on any social media app she had along with other conservative accounts. She started to hate the LGBTQ community more, thinking of herself as one of the “good lesbians”. She accused the entire LGBTQ community of being bad people and took pride in being one of the lesbians who didn’t support the community and being a conservative lesbian.
She believed she stood out as a lesbian and took pride in being a “good lesbian” like I stated and not “one of the pervert queers” (anything in quotes is obviously not my belief but hers/something she said).
She started to then hate all immigrants, regardless of if they were documented or undocumented, and really did not like Black or Latino people, thinking of them as “evil” and accusing them of being “illegals”.
She and her friends were all conservative queer people, most of which turned straight. They would all laugh at people who disagreed with their opinion and thought of Trump as the greatest guy in the world. So, an echo chamber.
I gradually stopped interacting with them until the girl stopped talking to me and I believe she blocked me.
She also didn’t really support actual transition between trans people and said while she doesn’t see trans women as “actual women”, she will be nice and respect their gender identity and pronouns.
She even said non-binary people don’t exist, which is silly. As a flavor of non-binary, this would mean I don’t actually exist and I just disappeared from this dimension.
So, yeah, has anyone else had an experience with a friend who turned conservative? Maybe a family member? It’s sad when the person you thought you knew turns into a parrot who just repeats the same dumb talking points over and over.
