Lots of comments about gaming from people assuming that companies will continue supporting their kernel anticheat on Windows 10 after it hits eol.

Windows 11 is much more convenient for identity tracking, so they'll probably push for people to upgrade because Windows is too "insecure" for their games.

Wonder if ChatGPT just scraped an example token from somewhere and is using that.

The playdate's crank thing was an interesting gimmick that opened up new ways of controlling games. They also had a number of other design decisions and limitations that breed creativity.

This just reminds me of the Mario Galaxy games. Rather than pressing a button to attack, you instead swing the wiimote just for the sake of being a gimmick. The coin is just a fancier switch or button; what can you do with the coin that you can't do by holding a button combo?

Also, those coins are absolutely going to get lost, hopefully they're 3D printable. And hopefully they're not fomo tokens where you need to buy them separately...

Still, I hope I'm wrong about this and it does turn out to be good. Is certainly an interesting idea.

Database was like "Mondays, am I right?".

e621 in theory is a general archive site for furry art, it's not just adult stuff. A lot of it is adult stuff, but I guess that just comes with the territory of furry stuff.

I think it's technically illegal, so they've got a "do not post" list. You can ask to be put on that list and people should stop posting your art there. They do give credit, which is better than a lot of art scraping places, but it's up to you.

Congrats on making art popular enough for people to want to archive, though. :P

I've read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I know where this is going.

In regards to full system backups, there's no real need to back up the OS itself. Canonical will give you a clean Ubuntu install if you ask then nice enough, after all. Personally, the risk of having to spend an afternoon reconfiguring my system isn't that big a deal compared to the storage and time needed to back up an entire image.

I know systems generate a lot of "cruft" in terms of instslled programs and tweaked configurations over time which can be hard to keep track of and remember. But imo that should be avoided at all costs because it leads to compatibility and security issues.

For backing up databases, there's scripts like automysqlbackup and pg_dump which will export a database to an sql file which can be easily backed up without worrying about copying a broken file.

I actually recently set up borgmatic earlier today and I'd recommend it except for the fact that you seem to be using Docker, and I'm not sure how best to backup containers.

Did some digging and as far as I can tell this is from https://akamavarii.tumblr.com/post/719124314440499200/pride-posyums

They're adorable.

I mean, we came from banging rocks together to making those rocks think for us. Our entire modern world is so far divorced from ancient humanity it's hard to list all the individual accomplishments. Recently though has been the electrical grid, global logistics chains and the internet. In these times of medical doomerism, it's also important to remember that we banded together killed smallpox.

Sending memes back and forth is a love language.

It was working in Firefox and I happened to have a VPN running in it, so that might be messing with my DNS such that the cache was different. Hopefully all fixed now though.

Interesting discussion on the level design on Banjo-Kazooie, and how it differs from Tooie. Honestly, I kind of agree with much of what he said; I got lost in Tooie levels a lot and the constant switching between characters was a real pain.

But yeah, the level design in the first game was really good. It was always clear where you were in the level, and they were small and dense enough that traveling didn't feel like a chore.

I've been doing pixel art for a while now, and I've finally made something that I feel comfortable showing off. I don't feel it's as good as some of the other stuff I've seen around, but I got it to a state where I think it looks kinda cute.

Any feedback or advice would be welcome!

Saw this on https://ttrpg.network/ , who are serving it under https://old.ttrpg.network/ . Figured I'd signal boost it here in case it's of interest to anyone.

Any games with animal people in it that you want to talk about? Either as a recommendation, or as a "look at this interesting thing"?

For me, I've been playing three games recently:

  • Tunic: An adorable zelda/soulslike hybrid that looks adorable. It also captures a unique sense of retro and nostalgia that I haven't felt before. Would recommend, and worth going into it blind.
  • Super Lesbian Animal RPG: I know it's not really aimed at me, but I've been enjoying it. It feels very genuine and doesn't take itself too seriously. So far, anyway.
  • Friends vs Friends: An online arena shooter/deckbuilder game. Pretty fun, although I'm not good at it yet. Not yet sure how P2W it is though.

So I assume many of us have played some games for the first time long after their release date. Like, maybe you didn't have a specific console growing up so we didn't play the "classics" on it, or something.

I'm just wondering how many of you have played an older game and thought "wow, I wish I grew up with this game"?

For example, for me, many years ago I played Super Metroid for the first time and fell in love with the idea of just wandering aimlessly around the game world, occasionally stumbling into new areas. I would have loved to have played it as a kid with childlike wonder without worrying about finishing the game or making progress.
