I've been in a similar situation looking for a NAS setup that would work for me, and with my current limited knowledge. I settled on the HomePiNAS. It's a custom PCB they make that mounts a CM5, up to 6 drives, 2.5G NIC, and x2 m.2 slots all in a 3D printable case they can ship for you too. Put on Open Media Vault or whatever else you want and it's good to go. I was interested because it's not a complicated setup, allows for AI chips to be added or whatever else you want to use, has a 2.5G nic, and is low power.

I pretty much only use FOSS programs. They're monetarilly free which makes them super easy to try and see if you like them and with the abundance of options it's likely you'll find a program you enjoy. I find most programs and not janky like people assume

My computer uses Linux and basically everything is FOSS. Is Steam FOSS? I doubt it, so that may be the only program that isn't, and the games.

On my phone the only two apps that aren't FOSS are the Privacy.com app and my weather station which I'm working on an alternative.

I used TrackIR back in the day but haven't touched VR yet. TrackIR was awesome in Wings of Prey. Can't remember if I played a car racing game with it

Reminds me of the similar firearm in the Metro 2033 game

What would you describe "medical conspiracism" as?

That's a great point

Okay, that makes sense. Thank you

Can you give an example of a custom map server and it's usefulness?

Dark Horse is a fantastic one. The main episodes are Bret and Heather (married couple) and Bret also does interviews with guests

Unlimited Hangout!

IronFox is a mobile app while the OP is asking about desktop

Depends on the community. Some it's quite often, and others it's not. I do like to hear variety in people's thinking

I just got my second RPi5, put LibreElec on it via microSD, and for some reason the boot menu appears and goes through it's thing first before booting LibreElec. Is there a reason it doesn't boot straight into LibreElec? How can I have it skip the boot menu screen?

Common security practices are to keep a router for as long as it's receiving security patches. Once it's EOL, then replace it.

I have a Gl.iNet router using the latest firmware that just released recently. However, the router is based on OpenWRT and is running v21.02 when the latest OpenWRT official version is 24.10.3. On OpenWRT's website v21.02 is considered EOL.

So should this router be considered EOL? Should the whole company not be worth buying from since everything sold is immediately EOL? I don't understand enough about cyber security to know how significant the jump is from v21.02 to v24.10.3.

PS. I know these routers can be flashed with straight OpenWRT but this is for the sake of my thought experiment.

Is GammaOS, an alternative OS for some popular retro gaming Android devices, deGoogled?

Besides the price sometimes, Google services being preinstalled on these Android devices is the main reason keeping me from wanting to get one. I'd love to be able to emulate GameCube though and I'm hoping GammaOS is the solution.

Is there a hack to apply to Final Fantasy Legend II for GB in English that changes the localization of things like bananas back to opium, etc?

What are your favorite Vanilla+ versions of classic N64 games, fan remakes, etc. that preferably can run on original hardware? For example Kaze Emanuar's Return to Yoshi's Island or Smash Remix.

I'm planning to get an Analogue 3D and have my kid grow up playing it along with other emulated systems on a RPi.

When BTC continues to half it will deincentivise people to mine it. Their rewards will drop as the price of electricity stays the same in that moment.

How will this affect BTC's usability? If less people are mining then does that mean there will be a traffic jam when people want to transact, thus significantly raising transaction fees and slowing the process? This will deincentivise people from wanting to use BTC.

At this point what else would people flock to to keep currency sovereignty?

BTC Lightning? Though this is dependent on BTC as a whole right?

Monero maybe? I don't know really anything on how that coin works.

I've been fairly successful at getting people to get on Signal of recent. However, I cannot find them in Signal to send a message. I'm on GrapheneOS, have them saved in the default contacts app (not something isolated like Fossify), and I have refreshed the contacts list in Signal. That doesn't work. So I type their number in the "find by phone number" and then all it offers is to "invite to signal".

Does anyone know what the issue is and how to fix it? I'm trying not to lose people from the Signal train but this is a real turn off for normies.

Does anyone have opinions on Revelation vs Emerald Cross? Both are vanilla+ experiences of Pokémon Emerald for the GBA. They both look very good but I would like to enjoy the one that that is the better vanilla+ experience.

For comparison, I'm nearing beating the Pokemon league in Polished Crystal and absolutely love the game.

Sorry I accidentally deleted my last post. I appreciate the answers the two people gave.

This is some big larva I found and the head looks centipede-ish but the body is short and fat with less legs.

I went through my images and found an old photo of a beetle that was on my screen door. Maybe it's a larva for one of these?

Hey everyone, I've been a long time photographer on a hiatus. Ever since learning about the existence of EQ mounts I have been excited to get back into photography and try the astro side of it.

I have a 300mm f/2.8 lens for my DSLR and am wondering if that focal length is any good. Thanks!

I don't use Discord much anymore and haven't used this program but this looks like a nice 3rd party Discord flatpak. It supports screensharing on Wayland. Just thought I'd share with the community

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a modern designed case (preferably SFF) that has retro asthetics. Examples would be the SilverStone FLP01 and Ayaneo's Retro Mini PCs.
