Unfortunately most standards bodies are pretty much this stupid though. Blu-ray, DVD, USB, hell even codecs like H265 and MP3 have governing bodies that are mostly enterprises enforcing their collective power on standards. That’s good in ways because it means they all have to decide on a standard that’ll work wihh to pretty much anything, but bad because they can also enforce bullying like HDCP onto consumers.
Right, it’s not really a 3rd option. It’s more like a negative value option. It exists, but it’s not really in the options list. It’s closer to “the only winning move is not to play”
Jury nullification isn’t that they agreed crime wasn’t committed, but rather that they refuse to agree on a guilty verdict because they don’t agree with the law. It’s sort of a natural loophole in jury responsibility and enforcement.
It’s fucking stupid that I understood this comment and know it’s correct.
I pirate my media. The way I see it, I will pull one over on any company I can get away with that would absolutely swindle me given the chance.
I worked at a knock-off Apple Store in the PNW from 2009 to 2013 and I told this same line to MANY people. The thing about being an “Apple Specialist” is that we sold more than Apple did, including “aftermarket” RAM modules to do that upgrade on-site for customers, saving those customer money AND netting us more profit than if we had sold them the Apple SKU with more RAM. When Apple closed this loophole it was not just at the expense of end-users, but their channel partners too.
Gun company says you “broke the TOS” when you pointed the gun at a person. It’s not their fault you used it to do a murder.
