Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in unrelated arguments.

Brigading — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from voting, commenting or manipulating the post in any way, this includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be permanently banned.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

Idk as someone with Chinese friends who have told me a lot about it, I don't think this is super true. They will say yeah the government will spy on absolutely everything, so don't say anything TOO crazy(same in the US but we won't get disappeared hopefully), but as an example during covid lockdowns in China where people were being denied food and medical care, tons of people protested what the government was doing and it did change, albeit very very slowly.

The best explanation I got was the government does what the majority of people agree with, and it will change if the majority changes what they think. If you're not part of the majority too bad keep it to yourself. For instance most Chinese people think the uyghyr genocide/ re education is not a big deal because they're religious nutjobs / a cult. It's sort of unity over self expression and fairness.

Also them using China as an example of communism is hilarious, China is as communist as lacroix is a soda. 90% of your life is ruled by money just like the US, the government just has way more power.

as lacroix is a soda.

Bubbles, artificial flavoring, idk, seems close enough for me.

Soda

A popular non-alcoholic beverage, sweetened by various means, containing flavoring and supersaturated with carbon dioxide, so as to be effervescent when the container is opened; -- in different localities it is variously called also soda, pop, mineral water, and minerals. It has many variants. The sweetening agent may be natural, such as cane sugar or corn syrup, or artificial, such as saccharin or aspartame. The flavoring varies widely, popular variants being fruit juices, fruit sirups, crea...

Maybe "Soda with Water characteristics?"

Appreciate your nuanced view on the topic, actually. Obligatory fuck Chinese capitalism (and American capitalism while we're at it), but I always suspect it's less obligatory than we make it seem here in the west.

After all, most people are just people, and take to live and let live first. It's the greedy motherfuckers at the top ruining it for the rest of us, not the average citizens, Chinese, American or otherwise.
