This is becoming a problem online in general. Just yesterday there was an article from Android Central making the rounds on the front page of Lemmy about iFixit and Kobo entering into a partnership. Except that partnership was entered into 2 1/2 years ago.

That was recently relevant in the wake of Amazon bricking older Kindles, I think.

Relevance doesn’t mean burying the lede in regard to when it happened.

It's a known method of those repost-karma-farming bots on reddit to simply repost older content. We might run into the same issues here on Lemmy.

What's the incentive for Lemmy? Points/karma doesn't matter here.

I think here on Lemmy the incentive is comment and post history to have a more trusted account.

You guys are looking at other people's accounts for trustworthiness? Most I do is judge people off what instance they're on (which I feel is simultaneously both a very and also not very "dot world" of me).

Depends on the comment, the post, and how lazy I’m feeling in that particular moment.

It doesn't matter on Reddit either, technically. I think. I haven't been there in 3 years so I dunno maybe you can buy kind strangers golf or some stupid shit.

Because on reddit it accumulates to your account. Here, there's zero record of your upvotes outside of the individual posts/comments themselves and it doesn't track between instances.
