It's a known method of those repost-karma-farming bots on reddit to simply repost older content. We might run into the same issues here on Lemmy.

I think here on Lemmy the incentive is comment and post history to have a more trusted account.

You guys are looking at other people's accounts for trustworthiness? Most I do is judge people off what instance they're on (which I feel is simultaneously both a very and also not very "dot world" of me).

Because on reddit it accumulates to your account. Here, there's zero record of your upvotes outside of the individual posts/comments themselves and it doesn't track between instances.
