Decolonization is happening. America is less able to flex it's muscles and get cheap products from the Global south. The death throes of capitalism are in progress.

this isn't the result of decolonization unfortunately it's about a luxury red varietal bred in california

Time to rent out pineapples by the hour for portraits like we’re back in Victorian England

If I could be totally honest, I would like at some point in my life to have a blue banana and maybe one of those Japanese square melons (or just make one myself). There's a lot of obscure produce (even in places like the Midwest) that are honestly worth praise.

Custard Apples were always good when they hit the farmer's markets back when I lived in Wisconsin

Don't ship very well though, so it's been a while since I had one

I miss "grapples" I don't know if anyone else remembers those, but they were apples that tasted like grape soda. They came in a 4-pack and I loved them as a kid. Haven't seen them anywhere since.

I feel you. I keep wanting to get my hands on a paw paw or 3

[–] PhatInferno@midwest.social 3 points 1 year ago

If you ever get the chance mayapples are wayy better than pawpaws imo (tho they are alot harder to forage for)

They taste like a snaple
