Tbf Italians mounted an actual resistance to their fascist government that killed their fascist leader, unlike the German resistance which was a wet fucking fart and hitler shot himself in a basement like a cuck. Hell they used to have one of the biggest communist parities in mainland Europe.

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 43 points 1 year ago

If it wasn't for operation gladio and the fucking pope Italy would've been a beautiful, communist country.

Bulgarians, Yugoslavians and Romanians also toppled their pro-Axis goverments with aid from the Soviets.

Albania, too, right? I always figured "obscure nobody who liberates the country "single handedly"" goes a long way to explain why Hoxha is a revered figure despite him being, by all measures, kind of weird with it

[–] theposterformerlyknownasgood@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hoxha would kick your ass for that if he could he hear you inside the bunker

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

A) Were I Hoxha, I would've arrived at the same conclusions as he did

B) Seasoned WW2-Nazi-Fighter-Partisan vs. Doughiest White Boy seems like a rigged fight

Tbf Italians mounted an actual resistance to their fascist government that killed their fascist leader,

They did. But they then went on to kill, imprison or marginalize anyone who had been a member of the resistance from the beginning in order to promote the fascist turncoats, the heroes of the final days.

[–] take_five_seconds@hexbear.net 29 points 1 year ago

"yes we are horrible fascists but have you had our coffee cake?"

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 43 points 1 year ago (6 children)

Imagine trying to impress a Chinese guy with your national cuisine and picking spaghetti.

[–] itappearsthat@hexbear.net 26 points 1 year ago (1 children)

funny thing is in Chinese the literal translation of spaghetti is "italian noodles" (yi da li mien)

[–] glans@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It sounded in the video like she was just saying "Italian" (yi ta li ein).

[–] itappearsthat@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

nah it was yi da li mien. Tones were right.

[–] supafuzz@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

you know, that thing we stole from you guys and then made our whole identity?

[–] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

I love cacio e pepe but dandan noodles or Lanzhou beef noodle soup blows it out of the water

[–] GaveUp@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Spaghetti isn't bad but I think every other cuisines noodle dishes I've tried blows it out the water

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Even other Italian noodle dishes blow it out of the water.

Tbf I don't think there's really translations for all the different Italian pasta dishes, or if there is I don't think they're widely known

What she said literally translates to "Italian noodles" which is understood as pasta or spaghetti

[–] iridaniotter@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

It's one of the most iconic dishes though.

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

And chinese for spaghetti is apparently italy noodles

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 26 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

[–] Othello@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

[–] Dolores@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

[–] Othello@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

sure, but i dont think shes american.

[–] Dolores@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

she italian, true i forgot about the username watermarks on tiktoks

I think calling them Anglo would be a good way to respond to annoying Italians.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

hmm I suppose you're right but I generally just call any white european anglo because it's faster.

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I generally just call any fruit an apple because it's faster.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago

I'll stick with cracker then

[–] glans@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

The apple from the tree of knowledge of good n evil.

[–] radiofreeval@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Cracker works too

[–] BoxedFenders@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

It's pretty funny how people are amazed whenever a Westerner is fluent in a non-European language because the norm is the ex-pat who has lived for decades abroad and still demands that the locals speak English.

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

wojak-nooo dont you know spaghetti? Tiramisu?

[–] hello_hello@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Truly the unholy fascist trinity. Next she's going to tell him that she studied in Spain.

Is Hexbear/Lemmy capable of embedding videos?

Edit: Looks like it's a whole deal.

Embeds are currently broken in lemmy-ui.

Do you know spaghetti?

Yeah, Mr. Spaghetti is the streamer who tried to debate Norman Finkelstein.
