Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

I really do not understand how she became an ironic leftist symbol, meme or not

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 55 points 1 year ago (1 children)

She seems like distilled spectacle.

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 35 points 1 year ago

If capitalism were a pop star

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 49 points 1 year ago

It's so jokerfying how the chuds thinks she's a leftist because she's a billionaire and doesn't want to genocide black people.

[–] Findom_DeLuise@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

To be fair, the frothingfash did started malding so hard that they busted out the "NFL games are scripted like wrasslin'" theory to paint her as some sort of Machiavellian puppetmaster.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

Classic conflict.

On the one hand she sucks but "only" as much as every other billionaire and less then a lot, like at least she's not also using her platform for spreading bigotry but also she's like the poster child for climate ruining personal consumption.

But on the other hand she makes chuds incredibly mad just by existing.

So bad with confusing unintended side effects?

[–] Moonworm@hexbear.net 35 points 1 year ago

She's just really popular in general, so people fit that into whatever way they feel the need to.

i feel like it's only on hexbear i haven't see it anywhere else

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 35 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I've seen people calling her "The only ethical billionaire", so it's not just here

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 47 points 1 year ago

 "The only ethical billionaire"

michael-laugh michael-laugh michael-laugh michael-laugh michael-laugh

Revealing they don't understand how a person becomes a billionaire

[–] GinAndJuche@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Incredible amounts of cringe, the liberals must be stopped before they lathe “ethical wealth” into the discourse.

damn you sure those weren't just socdems? i find it hard to wrap my mind around actual commies saying that that but i wouldn't be surprised

White people. I say this as a white person. Pretty much every second white women loves Taylor Swift, even where I live. Apparently Taylor also alienated a ton of her black fans by dating and writing half an album about a racist guy that went on a cumtown podcast and said racist things. That's what I understand from browsing social media and listening to the first half of her latest album.

Honestly listening to Taylor Swift's latest album was weird. She had a whole song dedicated to calling out the section of her fans that told her to stop dating the racist guy. That level of parasocial behaviour on such a big pop record weirded me out. But I guess that's why she's popular, people want to be invested in the Taylorverse™®

[–] sir_this_is_a_wendys@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

How many songs/albums does she have about people she dated? I know that's the most relatable thing to write lyrics about but if like 15 dudes in a row have done you wrong maybe take a look in the mirror?

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

She’s made songs referencing that lol. Blank Space is the most popular from her self reflection songs, although it’s supposedly satirizing those sentiments lol. It’s a banger though

That quarterback is going to disappear off the face of earth like most of the previous boyfriends after breaking up

[–] mar_k@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i googled it and she's mentioned 12, which isn't crazy for a conventionally attractive woman in her mid 30s who's been famous for like, two decades. and as far as ive heard she's on good terms with more than a few

Well I still don't like her

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

She had a beautiful song called The Lakes which was ruined by her lyrics referencing twitter beef lol

liberal symbol

[–] JCreazy@midwest.social 3 points 1 year ago

Because she promoted voting

I'm so mad that housing is such a solvable problem/issue. It's not some nebulous quandary of the soul, it's a very actionable thing we can adress. We never do though, all we do anything other than shuffle human lives around.

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 41 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

And it’s not even a “we just need to spend the money” thing either, because housing homeless people costs less than letting them live on the streets. This is something that any level of government can solve if they just choose to. The federal government could do it by just using the money printer but also any broke local government can solve homelessness as a cost cutting measure.

[–] LGOrcStreetSamurai@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago

EXACTLY! FUCKIN' EXACTLY!

[–] QueerCommie@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

costs less

That might be less profitable tho… you think we really care about efficiency?

[–] HexbearGPT@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

but then how will we justify the giant police departments cities have, and how will we justify their primary function, which is buying off the most violent morons to the side of the capitalists so they don't make trouble?

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago

We could solve it overnight but America doesn't want to set the precedent of providing basic needs for its populus when you could charge for the service instead.

[–] Eldritch@hexbear.net 62 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I hate her so much. She's also a business owner and landlord. Plus her aryan vibes, I just can't stand it.

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago

Plus her aryan vibes, I just can't stand it.

The tacit aryanism of the anglophone world is ridiculous

Plus her aryan vibes

No for real she looks like a Nazi propaganda poster

[–] sourquincelog@hexbear.net 57 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Damn, she's getting the "head of state visit" treatment

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 43 points 1 year ago

There's a whole fucking like microeconomy around her tour it's bonkers

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

She's as big as the Olympics. That's a little sad.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago

More a condemnation of the Olympics than anything.

[–] space_comrade@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Can anybody explain how Taylor Swift is so big? I'm normally not one to judge somebody's music taste but god damn she puts out the blandest fucking TV commercial music you can think of. Is the power of being a nepo baby so tremendous?

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I mean that’s entirely why. She makes largely uncontroversial music, and she’s largely uncontroversial herself. The things that the media focus on are her sex life/relationship which is typical celebrity gossip nonsense, but she parlayed that into an empowerment brand unlike other celebrities which I suppose may resonate with girls and women who hate having people constantly criticizing them for private affairs. Plus, there are only few reasons why people become popular. Either you’re extremely transgressive and controversial, or you’re widely appealing, or both.

Her feud with Kanye was also iconic. But nowadays he’s just dragging it out cause he’s washed while she just subtly references it or talks about it to the media constantly like it’s still relevant lol

[–] pyx@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

someone's gotta fill that lowest common denominator shit out. people love it

[–] GinAndJuche@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Industry plant, its well-documented

most people are rubes. hogs. swine.

and capitalists love to cultivate those instincts and profit off of them.

socialists aim to elevate and celebrate cultural tastes.

Fun fact: Taylor Swift's net worth is only slightly less than Edinburgh's annual budget.

[–] mayo_cider@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I scrolled through this thread and most of you seem more angry at Taylor Swift than you seem to be at the existence of homeless people

You waste your hate

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

edinburgh was also angry about the existence of homeless people and that was where the problem started in this case

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

The existence of Taylor Swift is almost no different than the existence of any other billionaire. The difference is that she produces something. The inequality remains constant.

[–] HexbearGPT@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

false. dichotomy.

i'm pretty sure there could be room for both homeless people and music fans in the same city of capitalist greed weren't allowed.

porky watching taylor swift fans and homeless advocates fight each other: capitalist-laugh
