That insulin is an industry at all is enough to condemn the West to permanent jihad. May the entire employee directory of Eli Lilly be rendered into life-saving hormones forever.

I wish the Unabomber was still alive to see this

His manifesto had curing diabetes as a sign that science "has gone too far"

[โ€“] emizeko@hexbear.net 37 points 1 year ago (4 children)

in the same breath he says letting people have insulin is a similar problem

  1. Even if medical progress could be maintained without the rest of the technological system, it would by itself bring certain evils. Suppose for example that a cure for diabetes is discovered. People with a genetic tendency to diabetes will then be able to survive and reproduce as well as anyone else. Natural selection against genes for diabetes will cease and such genes will spread throughout the population. (This may be occurring to some extent already, since diabetes, while not curable, can be controlled through use of insulin.) The same thing will happen with many other diseases susceptibility to which is affected by genetic degradation of the population.

MKULTRA really did a number on this guy

"If a cure was developed for people with this condition, then they would be able to reproduce more people who could be easily cured. There can only be one conclusion from this: billions must die"

LSD is a hell of a drug folks

when you understand genetics but don't understand biology well enough to get that most people reproduce well before diabetes would cause their deaths

Hate hate hate how he gets glorified in meme culture. eco fashist rethoric is on the rise and people sharing "uncle ted" memes doesnt help

my support is getting less critical

porky-scared "Quick! Cast aspersions on stem cells as being harvested by the evil CCP from forcibly aborted fetuses! And maybe tie this in with some of that antivaxx stuff that is doing so well"

[โ€“] Runcible@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Gotta be careful, if you frame this sufficiently ghoulishly you'll get them onboard with the worst possible implementation.

Stuff like optimizing for aborted fetuses (fetii?) to people cured of diabetes is what economists were made for.

From the thumbnail I thought this was a picture of a Chinese finger trap rofl

[โ€“] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My friend has a dipshit antivax relative who believes that scientists have a cure for every disease but they won't sell the cure so they can make more money treating symptoms.

You'd think he would latch onto this as proof. Except in this case he'd be on the side of Big Insulin because he thinks China is evil.

Don't ask me how he makes sense of the world.

This is a family guy episode lol

Do anti-vaxxers think scientists control the world or something?

Laughable

[โ€“] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago

If I mention this to anyone they will just say that China is lying

[โ€“] krolden@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 year ago

I would guess that this guy Dan Collins were saying that sarcastically.

[โ€“] oregoncom@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago

That's got to be sarcastic right?

[โ€“] sexywheat@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

but at what cost?
