Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1315 readers
216 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

My comment was:

OP's stated definition of nazism:

Nazism is a dangerous and evil far left wing ideology

A direct quote from OP's stickied post: https://lemmy.sdf.org/post/28952853

Interesting that OP wouldn't want us to know what they mean when they say Nazi.

Interesting that that guy also created a conservative community and an anti-trans community calling trans people groomers. "Hey, I'm a republican fascist, but not a nazi, so long as nazi means left wing"

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 16 points 4 months ago

Been noticing some odd activity lately around fedi.

Nicole won't stop harassing honest shit posters lol

Say no to nazi, but creates a community for the “4th Reich”. Literally a Nazi term.

[–] Ptsf@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Flood the fields.

I had an account on Rammy and remember that crap unfolding. It's the same deal, targeting an instance with an inactive admin and posting carbon-copied crap, but without the backing of that fascist instance which name eludes me. Seems like the same sorry waste of space got bored of whatever nazi shithole it crawled into...

[–] nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org 39 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Thanks for posting! Wouldn't have noticed this until tomorrow if you hadn't. I've lit the beacons to get admin attention and instance users are reaching out as well. If we don't see it addressed by tomorrow, I'll be logging into the pubnix to make some noise (I'm not a mod or admin but an open-source and pubnix enthusiast).

Of course! I'm not letting some fascist chud take over my BBS nostalgia zone without a fight.

The mod is a troll (and also a rightwing bigoted disinformation spreader). Admins of the host instance should ban them, and if not, other instances should defederate from lemmy.sdf.org.

Edit: nvm the original edit, I was mistaken

Re-edit: the site admin has now banned the troll with the reason being solely “userbase request”. I take this lack of detail to suggest that the server admin either A. saw what the troll posted and was fine with it, or B. didn’t even bother to look through the content the troll posted that the userbase took issue with

[–] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 15 points 4 months ago

Just chiming in to say that this guy is violating the instance rules and our admins just aren't very active unless poked, but there have been multiple threads of people trying to contact the admins.

I'm not a representative of the site, just a user, but I can say in general that sdf.org is an artist collective kinda deal and we're getting spammed by one or more bad actors at the moment.

[–] kabi@lemm.ee 10 points 4 months ago

the instance’s modlog shows the troll was banned from their instance

I don't think it does? They were banned from a couple of communities, but that's it: https://lemmy.sdf.org/modlog?page=1&actionType=All&userId=15728004

It's just a matter of time, though.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 31 points 4 months ago

Yeah the Nazi in question is also the sole moderator.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 27 points 4 months ago

Note that the author of that post is also the only mod of that community.

They seem very confused, considering they describe themselves as "pretty conservative leaning": https://lemmy.sdf.org/post/28953628

[–] Aatube@kbin.melroy.org 24 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Does lemmy.sdf.org actually not have any instance rules?

[–] nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org 18 points 4 months ago (1 children)

We do and this guy is clearly violating them.

[–] Aatube@kbin.melroy.org 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Would you kindly link them for me?

[–] nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 4 months ago

Generally, I'd look to these:

The rules are not Lemmy-specific that I've seen but the overall policies are:

  1. Don't be a dick (no harassment, discrimination, transphobia, hate speech, disinformation, etc).
  2. No commercial activity (SDF is both a non-profit and philosophically opposed to spreading the rot of the commercial www - people need spaces that are not about engaging in commerce).
[–] Stovetop@lemmy.world 22 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Had to go and proudly get banned myself!

What a joke. Hopefully lemmy.sdf.org acts on this soon, I'd hate to have to filter the entire instance over a few crappy spammers.

[–] kabi@lemm.ee 14 points 4 months ago

I mostly wanted to warn potential upvoters as to what they're really upvoting.

Plan B was to get an obviously power tripping ban that I can post here. Somehow, I figured this would be the case.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 4 months ago

Already banned that shitstain from our instance.

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 19 points 4 months ago

They mean anybody they don't like.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 19 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Is lemmy.sdf.org a Nazi instance, or are the admins going to ban that user?

[–] nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org 22 points 4 months ago (1 children)

SDF is decidedly NOT a Nazi instance but one leaning anarchist centered around a public unix server and open source.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

So has the SDF admin (I get the impression there's only one) woken up, glanced at the flood of messages/reports, and banned the user yet? It's been almost 12 hours since my comment, which should've been plenty of time.

[–] nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 4 months ago

I'm hoping so but, it's still early on the West Coast. I'll be hoping on the pubnix this afternoon, if there isn't a resolution to try to get attention on it. We've already had messages sent via Mastodon, email, Lemmy, and, I think the pubnix comms, so, hopefully making more noise will be unnecessary.

[–] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Yeah this guy is an alt-right troll trying to spread as much hate as he can, PTB for sure. I recommend contacting as many instance admins around the Fediverse as you can to make them aware of this issue. Hopefully SDF's admins intervene and put an end to this situation, otherwise it's not looking good.

Edit: I started reporting their posts on my other account and I was banned after just submitting five reports for reason "Libtard".

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 17 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Left-Wing nazi regime

What??, always thought nazis are far-right..

[–] OneWomanCreamTeam@sh.itjust.works 16 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, but Nazis love to say "I'm not a Nazi, that's a left wing ideology. All those people telling me not to call them slurs are the real Nazis."

"It's called National SOCIALISM!!!11!1", that's their claim and the whole basis of their extremly intricate political analysis.

[–] Harvey656@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago

Interesting. Did Ashton wipe their previous comments? I feel like that username looks familiar.

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Yeah that guy's a bigot who's getting instance-banned as soon as the admin wakes up.

Incidentally, why the fuck does Lemmy's sorting ever show you a post that's -53? I'm not on page five hundred, here. Some anti-trans horseshit, which everyone already piled on and called out, is ranked basically alongside this post. Tear out that math and start over.

[–] psud@aussie.zone 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I often sort all by new comments and it shows posts with zero comments on the first page, with something posted yesterday with 50 comments below it. Sort is probably difficult

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Sorting is CS 101 fare. Dessalines just fucked it up somehow.

Same as checking anything "Top Month" and seeing stuff from last year. That's not exactly in NP-hard.

[–] psud@aussie.zone 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I think Federation makes it hard

[–] molten@lemmy.world 13 points 4 months ago

Curious. That Ashton has a lot of problems with trans people while being a pussy that identifies as a man.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 9 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

There was a user in that comment thread banned for promoting violence, but the main post and poster haven't been for the same reason, despite the post itself also promoting violence.

This lack of consistency concerning violence against nazis is literally the second major reason I left Reddit in addition to them killing 3rd party apps. Some site admins were basically using posts promoting violence against Nazis to ban anyone who agreed with the post.

Edit: My comment pointing this out was removed and I was banned from the community for being a "libtard troll." lol okay buddy. Seems like you're a Nazi who doesn't like the idea of everyone kicking your ass.

[–] YarHarSuperstar@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

These guys aren't doing jack shit, and their history shows nothing to the contrary. The mod of the community is just trolling people. Their instance should ban them.

[–] YarHarSuperstar@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I meant the history of the user who is spamming hate. Don't expect consistency in ideology or behavior of this person, is what I'm saying. But absolutely agree fuck this guy ban him and any of his alts or friends
