Gaben is bourgeoisie, what did you expect?

[–] JK1348@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago

He owes me another left4dead

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago

Well I expected them to be more creative. This is just “games about money which is epic”

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 33 points 2 years ago (2 children)

that well-known economic structure called capitalism

Gaben is one of the deities in the reddit-logo pantheon so of course he has to present shit in that insufferably smug condescending way smuglord

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago (2 children)

He's also some kind of libertarian, isn't he? Smugness is a prerequisite for adopting that ideology.

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Valve gave employees $10,000 and told them they ‘should’ donate it to racial justice organizations lol

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

Extremely smuglord energy. God, I hate this.

[–] LGOrcStreetSamurai@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

For some reason I’m thinking the “Pantheon of the Shiftless” would be a cool hidden boss rush challenge in an leftie Dark Souls.

soypoint-1 Blessed Gaben, Violator of the Wallets soypoint-2

[–] ZapataCadabra@hexbear.net 31 points 2 years ago

I haven't read "Gaben" in a decade.

mega hyper cringe, causing runaway cringeflation, crashing the cringe markets and dropping society into a cringe depression

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 25 points 2 years ago

Like when Tsar Nicholas II posted cringe and lost subscriber soviet-chad

He's a libertarian billionaire lmao of course he has shit takes. This is still better than during the George Floyd protests when lower-level employees wanted to make a pro-BLM statement and he shut it down in favor of "neutrality".

[–] Grebgreb@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Literally :steamfront:, why is this the first time I'm hearing about this?

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago

Yeah idk you'd think the story would take off, but gamer-gulag gonna gamer-gulag, I guess. I only heard about it because I'm subbed to an indie gaming news youtube channel because the people involved already made boardgame content I like. They're decent, if a bit lib.

The segment in question

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He instead gave everyone $10k and suggested they give it to social justice orgs but it wasn’t mandatory

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I mean yeah but that's just giving money to bigots/libertarians who will at best do nothing and at worst result in them donating money to far-right causes. If he cared they'd have Valve give the money out directly.

capitalism is when currency, and the more currency there is the more capitalismer it is

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 17 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Oh boy, I hope The Tenants is included in this!

Become a landlord and deal with problematic tenants as you build your rental property empire. Decide how to react to annoyed neighbors or police interventions. Will you design your apartment for a group of gamer friends or an aspiring musician looking for a new home?

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago

I have this tagged with Villain Protagonist lmao

[–] bigboopballs@hexbear.net 2 points 2 years ago

they made a landlord video game 😒

[–] SerLava@hexbear.net 17 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

edit: nvm, it's porky-point porky-point

[–] flan@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago

Everybody disliked this

[–] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

also sorry to be that guy but we know that gabe newell, the ceo of the company, does not directly dictate the theming and marketing copy of sale events, right?

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago

I imagine he got a memo about it and approved it in the middle of his Dota 2 sessions at work

[–] Lurkerino@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago

I have loved playing strategy games and economic simulators since childhood, they built my understanding of resources and economies, but I always felt strage how the population and workers didnt matter.

Playing tropico 4 I made a communist paradise, and now Im playing workers and resources soviet republic.

the webpage crashes, i can't even see it

[–] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

that's weird, it's a pretty normal itch.io page. maybe conflict with a browser extension?

[–] Wheaties@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

huh, seems to be all the game pages. Maybe it's a firefox thing? Not sure

i'm using firefox. maybe it's conflicting with a browser extension?

Far be it from me to defend a billionaire, but primitive collection as a style of game seems innocuous enough to me. This would be games like lemonade stand simulator, right? Your harvest moon and Dave the Diver to some extent.
