Don't let Musk or his companies anywhere near these projects. He and his team are experts at turning actual infrastructure into vaporware.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 weeks ago

more of biden's infrastructure bill money to steal.. congressionally approved and allocated money. early site prep has already begun, even.

letting muskrat anywhere near this has great potential to really fuck-up the entire northeast corridor for a decade or two--or longer, for passengers and freight.

Expensive vaporware

Yeah, the Vegas loop, as I understand it to be built, would never be allowed by any sane or even rogue/mad civil engineer, and that's basically just a gussied up go-kart tunnel. No way in fuck they need to be allowed anywhere near rail infra.

Musk is the president, he gets any contract he wants.

So what you’re saying is they’re going to block public transportation?

[–] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Pay the toll to your God Chosen Betters, peasant!

/s

But seriously, public transportation has been sabotaged for almost 100 years, after the push for gasoline engines, and all the electric trolleys were decommissioned. Which came about from the glut of gasoline, a byproduct of the kerosene distilling process. The oil barons had tons of the stuff just sitting around.

"Say, Carruthers, I have much more of this "gasoline" than "kerosene." Why not sell it as fuel? Say for an engine, and whatnot?"

"Why... that's a novel idea, Reginald! I have tons of the stuff! Let's get one of those dirty mechanic types to investigate!"

Here's how it will go:

  1. The Boring Company aquires Amtrak.
  2. Elon Musk says: "If we can't come up with a better technology in X amount of years, we will just dismantle all the rail network and sell it a junk metal".
  3. The melting down of rails, etc., begins way before the deadline.
  4. Elon Musk announces alternative in the form of self-driving cars, donates a few Teslas for charity.

Ask Chicago how well that went. Ban Elon.

[–] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Of course he is.

He literally bought the United States Government. Why shouldn't he own everything? He's Homo Superior. The Ubermensch. The Divine Right Prince. The Kwisatz Haderach.

Just ask his mom.

This would be SUPER CORRUPT if Elon Musk spent a QUARTER BILLION DOLLARS on Trump's Campaign and was THEN given the Freedom to FIRE LITERALLY ANYONE HE WANTED IN THE GOVERNMENT WHILE GIVING OUT CONTRACTS TO WHOEVER HE WANTED! FORTUNATELY Joe Rogan said this DIDNT happen so FAKE NEWS!

"If trump loses, im fucked..."

Bad idea, blatant conflict of interest.

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Specifically, this is on the Fredric Douglas Tunnel project in Baltimore, an attempt to replace an 150 year old tunnel that’s become a major bottleneck on the Northeast Corridor.

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Fucking embarrassing....

The city was lined with Giga Factories, and since air quality couldn't be controlled with an app of some kind, no laws stopped them from sending a cascading cloud of industrial refuse down onto the city. It was all part of the Techno King's philosophy of hardcore work thought...

You recently left two different one-star reviews on Peace Keepr regarding badge num-bers 9966 and 7654. Have you considered that you were wrong in this situation and should apologize to the brave men and women who serve your community?

Two buttons were under the message.

Yes or no. I clicked no.

Your social score has been reduced by fifty points for holding radical political views. Your information has been forwarded to the extremist monitoring app, Preventr.

I cursed to myself. This is why I didn't leave the apartment if I could help it. As soon as those thoughts crossed my mind, a Robo Taxi plummeted out of the sky and crashed into a supermarket.

like, i get it that this is horrible corrupt bullshit, but..... i kinda want the public transit expansion this may offer.

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I can almost promise you that what dipshit is offering here is something he has no idea about. He's going to take the money, give us something dangerous and broken that doesn't even satisfy the minimum requirements of the project, and run off telling everyone what a great success it was because they got it done in two weeks.

[–] AmazingAwesomator@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

it sucks because i can feel this already. i just want some viable public transit :(

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 4 points 2 weeks ago

Me too, bro
