The original poster deleted their account, unfortunately. Took down this post too

I tried, but I couldn't find it. Cool sub though.

As I recall they were correct in that they did not know what they were doing

“Who puts a toilet in the middle of a room?”

Cool table. I've been daydreaming about building a dining/game table for years and never thought to put the trays on a hinge.

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I hadn't even noticed that - it's a great idea. Tough to make all the joinery line up along the length of the hinged flap!

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Probably why I never thought of it....definitely beyond my skill range lol

Every table I've thought to build either had flat trays that pull out or trays that are covered by the removable tabletop

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I play on a friend's purchased table. It has some little pull out writing shelves and cupholders that we never use because they aren't quite In the right spot. We pretty much just play on the sunken felt surface. It works fine.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

What I'd really like is for the trays to be at the same height as the table (so you're not looking so far down) with some sort of flip up wall. But I guess the same could be accomplished with folded cardboard

Been daydreaming about the Wyrmwood gaming tables. These fucking things look crazy.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Wow, very cool stuff!

I'll probably never be able to justify the cost but at the very least, those are some inspirational design choices.. why pigeonhole myself building the stuff INTO the table when I can just give it a mounting system...

I had also only considered the removable top in 1 or 2 pieces but it looks fine the way they have it which would be easier AND cheaper

Looks like winning to me?

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

Looks like they are doing fine to me.

That ship looks like the Unicorn model from Tintin's The Secret of the Unicorn / Red Rackham's Treasure.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What the hell, man? I looked up that model and....yeah, same one right down to the plaque. How did you do that?

Haha, who knows, possibly, but if so, I don't think it's related to why I guessed that.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Autism might be the reason they have an interest in ships and/or tintin but catching the model from a low res picture is what I'm praising. Impressive and cool

I don't have any particular interest in ships. I don't think you have to be autistic to be a huge Tintin fan either. The books are very popular worldwide and made a big impression on me. Thanks though, I'm glad that you found this impressive. :)

BTW, I never found the specific frame from the comics online that showed the Unicorn model that I remembered from so long ago. Did you find it? I unfortunately find myself without a complete Tintin book collection. :) I found enough references on an image search to confirm that it was similar though.

Edit - PS: I actually don't think it's the Tintin model. The nose and tail at least are a bit different designs:

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I was just trying to make it clear that autism isn't relevant to whether I'm impressed or not

I found that model, too, but there's another one I came across with a plaque that's twice as tall!

I didn't look for any original image, I haven't seen too much Tintin unfortunately

[–] turtle@lemm.ee 2 points 22 hours ago

No worries.

If you're into comics at all, especially European-style or more realistic comics, the Tintin books are amazing! If you do check it out, get the full-size individual ones, not the 3-book hardcover sets, which are reduced-size prints.

[–] turtle@lemm.ee 1 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

I guessed purely based on a vague memory from reading the Tintin books as a kid, decades ago. I guess I have a good design memory? It's a pretty distinctive design. I had to look it up online to verify that it was actually similar though.

[–] mrfriki@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

It’s ok, nobody have idea of what they are actually doing.

[–] fakeplastic@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What is that table? Are those keyboard trays?

[–] RandomStickman@fedia.io 21 points 1 day ago

Probably for ttrpg/board games
