Rules

AI Art: While we appreciate AI generated art, there are more appropriate communities to post that type of art to. Please keep posts to non-AI generated art only. This rule includes AI art that was then manually manipulated (e.g. drawing on top of something generated by AI).

Nudity: Nudity is and has always been a part of art, but it may be something that some users don't wish to see or cannot view in certain circumstances (e.g. at work). If your work contains nudity, please mark it as NSFW. Work that contains nudity that is not marked as NSFW will be taken down. As long as the NSFW tag is used, we welcome nude subject matter.

Spam: Please do not spam this community. Self promotion is fine if you just want people to be aware of your work, but blatant attempts at spam will result in the past being removed and possibly a ban. If you aren't sure if what you are posting is spam, please contact the moderator first.

Conduct: Be nice, and don't be a jerk. Constructive criticism is OK, but don't be mean. Encouragement is always welcomed.

I'm not usually one to share my art but I've been really wanting to branch out and share it with others because I'm about to make a big step forward in life. This is my latest piece. I designed all the models in Blender and made all the tool-pathing for my CNC machine in this wonderful program called VCarve Pro. Also, shout out to Krita for being the best magic bullet to get ideas from my brain to a format that I can start editing. Basically takes 1 500 x 500 MDF for the 14mm thick base x x2 500 x 500 sheets of Lauan plywood for the reflectors, boarder and the words which lovingly and accurately describes what JWST truly is deep down, a straight-up science gangster. The black lettering and hexagon lines I did by cutting text pockets in the wood then filling them with an epoxy + enamel paint mix. And after a good sanding and oil coating, this is where I'm at. Still trying to develop a way of mounting the piece to the wall as well as a better way of getting the text on the JWST model itself.

Also, you can't really see it from this angle, all the reflectors are facing inward towards a single point. Eventually I'll make the OTE (The black thing in the middle where nothing sits as of now)

I'm still working out the kinks but I plan on making the next one even better... which is currently being made right next to me.

The orientation of the grain! That's some professional tier shit right there.

That is bad ass, well done!

Thank you so much. That really means a lot to me.

Looks very cool with the converging lines in the wood!

Thank you and thanks for noticing! I redid basically everything for this part just so the grain of the wood could be put to good use. The first few iterations of that piece just wasn't doing it for me... until I realized that's exactly what I was missing.
