The police force accepting millions from a billionaire, I can see absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Apparently that's been how it works for decades, which explains why cops will show up to break strikes and protect a Starbucks, but will take hours to arrive if you ever need them.

There's a lot of police forces and police-adjacent organisations that will accept donations (FOP and the like), and that obviously affects the priorities when it comes to assigning personnel.

Ngl, the police have been in the pockets of the rich for a very long time. This is just a thank you for the extra work they have been doing to protect capital.

Their whole existence has been to protect capital.

Cyberpunk dystopia coming up

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Multiple people called it. Cyberpunk, here we come. We just get the shitty start without the cool tech.

I hear you. At least let me get some implants or something first!

You get diabetes and lead poisoning. Thanks for playing.

Best they can do is deport you.

Welcome. Welcome to City 17.

You have chosen, or been chosen, to relocate to one of our finest remaining urban centers. I thought so much of City 17 that I elected to establish my Administration here, in the Citadel so thoughtfully provided by Our Benefactors. I have been proud to call City 17 my home. And so, whether you are here to stay, or passing through on your way to parts unknown, welcome to City 17. It's safer here.

I can hear that. Don’t piss off the guards.

Then they won't mind the drones hovering ominously above their own homes and workplaces 24 hours a day, will they? They should be thrilled to demonstrate how safe and non-invasive constant surveillance is for the rest of us when the FOIA requests for their recordings start coming in

They're using this to gather facial biometric data to deanonymize protestors. Everyone stay safe and cover your face, else they'll use it against you!!

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

I'm pretty sure they're going to use it to harass the undesirables.... goddamnit I hate this future. That same donation could have been used to help people not need to be homeless in San Francisco.

I have just finished all the watch dog games, looks like they'll be a sequel after all!

"grift" is misspelled.
