Huh, I thought those were weeds and had been getting rid of them before they bloom.

I googled it and apparently they only bloom the second year

A weed is just a plant you don’t want, unless your jurisdiction has a list of “noxious weeds”.

Dandelions aren’t sprayed for in our city anymore, so neighbors also can’t complain if yours are “out of hand”, they aren’t a weed, they’re a cool little plant, but others will say they are weeds.

A random hollyhock also grew last year but didn't bloom. I love hollyhocks they are beautiful and kind of giant which I enjoy.
