Sleek minimalist design.

Do thumbnails of YouTube videos not show in regular Lemmy?

Tap for spoiler

[–] ohwhatfollyisman@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

it shows only after posting the comment, unfortunately in this instance.

[–] LilB0kChoy@midwest.social 1 points 23 hours ago

Ah, ok. I thought maybe it was the way my app displayed it.

Would be a nice feature if that was optional or turned off.

[–] whimsy@lemmy.zip 18 points 1 day ago

Please put an NSFW tag on this. I was on the train and when I saw this I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “what the fuck” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw this video. Now there is a whole train of men masturbating together at this one video. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW

[–] moobythegoldensock 16 points 1 day ago

Your post made me realize that troll links in general are going to be mystifying. Case in point, Arctic gave me a thumbnail without needing to click.

[–] Monster96@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

I'm never gonna give up watching these types of videos. I'm not going to let down the content creators who make them. And, I'm never gonna run around and hurt these creators who put their heart and souls into the videos.

[–] Shawdow194@fedia.io 10 points 1 day ago

Thats crazy Youtube lets stuff like that be uploaded

Youd think for sure videos like that would violate their TOS

[–] Asidonhopo@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

You said skimpy but man I was not expecting it to be that skimpy. Don't scroll past, check that vid out before youtube takes it down

[–] jqubed@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Never heard of such a thing, but there’s a lot of video trends I don’t understand already

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago

TIL what a try-on haul video is.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 5 points 1 day ago

OMG, you sent me down a rabbit hole. I ended up watching the entire anthology!

[–] gibmiser@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

You fuck <3

What part of internet culture wouldn't I be baffled by in 30 years?!

Even the most simple semi-niche forum is a goldmine in comparison to the hellhole apocalypse landscape culture the AI junkies are going for.

I'd say liminal spaces / backrooms lore : https://backrooms.fandom.com/wiki/Backrooms_Wiki

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I just discovered there are now over 9000 SCPs. Last time I checked, there were three hundred something.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Many seem to be AI garbage. I do like when I find an old one though.

[–] AngryRobot@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

I've never heard of that before and I'm still not sure I get it.

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago

I'm guessing the faces many people make and put on the picture used for their social media videos looking like they just shit their pants or ate a lemon are going to continue to get more stupid until it's just a pair of giant eyes and a sphincter

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

Stuff like the casting couch or piper memes. I feel like porn centered memes isn't something a 60 year old will be eager to share with their children.

"Oh honey, I don't remember. The internet was weird back then" but it's not something you actually forget. Not sure if it counts as meta. Shitposting will definitely be misunderstood and frowned upon.

[–] Glitterbomb@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

100 year old millenials with alzheimers having a nonverbal meltdown anytime anything vaguely resembles goatse, and noone can figure out why.

That's the future we are headed straight towards

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

Children, no… grandchildren, that’s where they get a chance to not give a fuck

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 day ago

I'd come and talk to you about it, but I'd need A Free Ride.

[–] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That everyone will accept the loss of the real internet for the dystopian nightmare we have now.

And that it will get worse in ways we cannot imagine.

[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You can move to the dark web, there's more stuff than black market shit and it looks like 90s internet.

Hard to find anything though.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago

Because it's so dark probably

[–] throbbing_banjo@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion, but memes.

Yes, I'm old, but I really want to believe that at some point the rest of the world is going to figure out that there's nothing particularly fun or funny about weaponized propaganda formatting, and go back to sharing actual information.

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 23 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

meme'ing is older then color film, it will probably be a thing that last longer then you want. It communicates a subject that goes beyond language

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

MUCH older. Shakespeare made a ton of contemporary references, and was referenced in turn by others during his days. Those were memes.

Medieval writers included strong biblical references, and we have some "entertainment" that is purportedly extremely funny and popular, that's basically the medieval equivalent of Loss.

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 day ago

Most memes, probably.

Me when I old and some one shows me a meme I created:

[–] shplane@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

They’ll always exist in some form. You could say comics in the newspaper were a version of memes before memes.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I’m ok with memes. What bothers me is the low effort reuse of meme formats over and over and over again.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I think you're right with some specific formats.

Remember Bad Luck Brian, Scumbag Steve, and socially awkward penguin? If you don't recognize those characters and know what they represent, the text around them won't make nearly as much sense.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago

This does not really cover the question but the use of companies pushing stuff by using the term viral the way a high school student council poster would use popular. Its like they do something online and of course its practically impossible to have zero participation in stuff (especially if you pay "influencers" to shill for it) and then call it viral even though the majority of folks didn't participate and don't care.
