Blacklist. James Spader in the most James Spadery role ever.

Kinda liking Revival. Started Sandman S2, but only watching 1 per week with friend.

Finished Dying for Sex. It was ok, but I kept getting distracted by thoughts like, "I bet this was uglier in real life." Of course, we probably want our media to be more fun and exciting than real life, but it is rare that I'm disrtacted by the ... 'cleanliness?' of a show.

side note: I did NOT like Interior Chinatown. I enjoyed the first couple episodes, but then it dragged, and I found the ending completely unsatisfying, with big holes left unfilled.

Debating if I should rewatch S1 of Peasemaker before starting S2.

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I was also disappointed by interior china town. Cool concept, but the story dragged and the cinematography was too gloomy.

Rewatched Legion. Originally I watched up to the end of S2 when it came out, but it started going a bit too off the rails and by the time S3 came out, I was completely lost.

I'm glad I rewatched it though because S3 takes a new and interesting direction with better pacing, and without sacrificing creativity. Great series.

I'm watching season 1 right now, it's a real headfuck but I think the actors are carrying it well.

[–] gila@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Season 1 probably has the most coherent narrative of the 3 lmao. The other seasons are still good but a lot of the episodes are fully self-contained headfucks

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

What platform did you see it on?

I've rewatched it before, but I could do another round.

Hulu has it (they hold FX/Fox and ABC catalogs). If you have the Disney bundle, you probably already have it (I hate ads so I have the ad-free version but no live TV with it).

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Thanks. You might like 'Penny Dreadful.' Eva Green as a psychic hunting for a lost girl in 1890s London. There's a lot more, but I'll let you find out.

[–] memfree@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I saw your earlier plug for Penny Dreadful, but I kinda want to boycott Paramount/Showtime after the 60 minutes & Colbert fiascos (After you asked about Legion, I commented about it in this post's threads).

Gee, it's almost as if monopoly capitalism poisons everything it touches.

Not to get political [jk, everything is already political]

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

I was able to watch season 1 and 2 at the same time and had to wait for 3. It was tough taking the break and trying to come back into it. Very complicated in parts but such a fun show, I've been meaning to rewatch it.

"Murderbot" is the perfect combination of smart and silly.

"Landman" is Billy Bob Thornton at his best. And yes, he pooh poohs the environmental impact of oil, because he's playing an oil man in Texas.

[–] Kyle_The_G@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I hated the show because the books are incredible and set my expectations way too high. It had its moments but the books are on another level.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 3 points 3 days ago

I read one of the books, second or third in the series. It was okay. I liked the show much better, especially when they showed bits of "Sanctuary Moon."

I'd suggest you check out some of her earlier stuff. "The Death Of The Necromancer" is set in [sorta] 1880s Vienna with a jewel thief and his actress partner getting caught up in a magic war. It's fun having the heroes get on a train to go visit a witch.

"The Wizard Hunters" follows the couples now adult daughter as she deals with an airship invasion.

Nice, thanks for the tip. I enjoyed Goliath; I suppose this is in a similar vein?

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I never saw 'Goliath' but Billy Bob is always worth a watch.

He's the 'landman' for a medium sized independent oil company. He deals with drug cartels who use his equipment to smuggle across the border, bureaucrats, lawyers, his crazy family, and a host of Texas locals.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He sure is.

Thanks for the quick summary. I guess Goliath is the counterpart: a lawyer who takes on a different Goliath in each season, usually rural America.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

While we're on the subject.

I could have put in a plug for "Penny Dreadful" on Paramount and Showtime.

Eva Green as a psychic and Timothy Dalton as a big game hunter searching for a lost girl in London, circa 1890.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 3 points 3 days ago

Oh, I watched that years ago. I liked it a lot.

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Just finished Murderbot. It's pretty good. I heard the books have way more stuff happening, but as a non-reader, the show was good as it was - a fun, quirky series that had just the right amount of run time.

This one is anime, but I'm currently watching Samurai Champloo, a 2004 animated series. It's great, and the soundtrack is amazing (Nujabes). Check out the ending credits song.

[–] golli@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

just the right amount of run time.

The overall amount of runtime might have been ok, but imo the short episode duration paired with a weekly release schedule imo was terrible.

Besides that (as a book reader) i felt a bit underwhelmed. Somehow i just didn't click with the cast. Although i wasn't as irritated as expected by the fact that murderbot was depicted as male. In the books the gender and appearance is never specified and i somehow had a female mental image, a bit more in the sarcastic direction like glados from the portal games.

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ah yeah I can imagine it being a pain to watch a 30-minute episode week by week. I binged episodes 1 to 8, then waited for 9 and 10 before watching them together, so it didn't feel too bad for me.

[–] golli@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 days ago

The episodes aren't even 30-minutes. Take a look at the episode length on TMDB, only the last episode is 34min long. Others are as short as 23min and i think you still need to substract the intro from that. And factor in that you waste additional time since you want to ease in and out of each episode, which you wouldn't with less episodes or if the whole thing was a movie.

Aculpulco on Apple TV.

It's in the vein of Jane the Virgin, but not as heavy on the telenovella elements. Light-hearted and fairly funny.

For just me, I finally finished Trek SNW in preparation for the new season. Holy shit I couldn't have imagined waiting this long with the cliffhanger of season 2.

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I just started Acapulco. It's a great little story, I've really been enjoying it! My Spanish is almost good enough to get by without subtitles. Estoy tan orgulloso de me mismo!!

[–] NJSpradlin@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Murderbot, Them, and The Time I was Reincarnated as a Slime. The anime is surprisingly fun, with very low stakes. I watch that one on my commute to/from work.

[–] TribblesBestFriend@startrek.website 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

In doubt : rematch DS9 and Voyager

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

I JUST finished a rewatch of Voyager. I forgot how weird and abrupt feeling the finale was.

[–] theskyisfalling@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Been really enjoying "Poker Face"

"Good Girls Guide to Murder" wasn't bad either.

I started Poker Face recently. Only a few episodes in, so far so good.

Fellow Travelers - Worth the hype. Peacemaker - Just started, I'm so glad to watch a DC show that's not made by Berlanti

Best opening song and dance!

[–] insaneinthemembrane@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)
[–] memfree@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Heads up: It is a Paramount/Showtime product (for anyone boycotting after the 60 minutes & Colbert incidents).

Promise I won't pay.

[–] yessikg@fedia.io 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yay! On the list

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I was thinking of rewatching Silicon Valley.

I'm rewatching, it's still good and I forgot a lot.

  • How to sell drugs online (fast) - The third season is out and it is starting a bit slow
  • When Live gives you Tangerines - Finalizing it now, very emotional and very good

"The Last Narc" a 2020 documentary miniseries about the Guadalajara Cartel, a dominant force in the drug trafficking business in the 70s and 80s.

[–] GammaGames@beehaw.org 1 points 3 days ago

We started The Summer Hikaru Died and it is very weird but I’m enjoying the main characters a lot!
