Nigel Farage has said violent UK offenders could be jailed overseas under his plans to cut crime by half.

The Reform UK leader named El Salvador as a likely destination, though he said he has not held conversations with officials there and "multiple" partners would be considered.

El Salvador is home to a notorious mega-prison, the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT).

A journalist should ask Farage if Trump's arsehole tastes like Putin's knob.

And by Trump's arsehole, I am not referring to J D Vance.

Copying a pedophile's policies right now, might not be the smartest plan.

[–] NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz 15 points 4 days ago

Depends if you're also a pedophile.

Fuck off frog face.

Why are all these far right dickheads - who normally decry the very concept of sending "our" money to "foreigners" - so horny to send millions to foreign countries when it suits them? I know why, I wonder what their supporters would think if you phrased it like that though

[–] comrade_twisty@feddit.org 12 points 5 days ago

Wait… Mexico is not paying for it?

This isn't unique to the far right. UK Labour has been on the anti-immigration warpath since their election, having fully swallowed the "Brexit" pill and embraced xenophobia as a popular election strategy.

As the domestic economy contracts at the proletariat level, capital needs to displace blame for its own failures onto marginalized and politically powerless groups. Migrants - particularly undocumented migrants - are easy targets. Farrage is repeating the "Send them to El Salvador" line because its the high water mark for American reactionaries. But he's just in a game of one-upsmanship with Keir Starmer, who will likely come back with a "That's too expensive, we can dispose of migrants more cheaply" rebuttal.

Labour are also doing their best far-right impression so it isn't a surprise that they'd be aping the idea anyway

If there's one thing I dislike more than a fascist autocrat, it's a would-be copycat fascist autocrat with no ideas of his own and a face like the world's most punchable frog.

Canada had a Trump clone run in its last election. He faceplanted because Trump started threatening to annex Canada during the election. Maybe Farage’s endorsement of the worst Trump policies will have a similar effect.

Coincidentally, Canada’s Trump clone also had a punchable face. Maybe being full of shit naturally makes you look constipated and ill-tempered.

[–] albbi@piefed.ca 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Poilievre isn't a Trump clone. Trump is perceived as an outsider to politics, someone who isn't a normal politician. Poilievre hasn't had any other jobs than being a politician, and tried to run with Trump's policies. I'm not going to say that's why he lost the election, but he's a long way from being a clone since he lacked one of the major traits that most people who would vote for Trump would identify with.

[–] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That’s a good point, actually. It’s worth noting, though, that Trump ran as the anti-elite candidate - a fact that is beyond absurd for someone who inherited almost a billion dollars. If a Manhattan billionaire can run as an everyman, maybe Poillievre’s long participation in Candian politics and his role under Harper would not prevent him running as a ‘political outsider.’ People might be dumb enough to believe it.

[–] albbi@piefed.ca 2 points 4 days ago

Poilievre: "Hrm.. maybe if I take off my glasses..."

Just because you deservedly keep getting hit with milkshakes, it doesn't mean Britain is "lawless".

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 5 days ago

Farage is a traitor. Not hyperbole. If someone went through his devices and financials there would be enough Russia and American bribery and colluding to reopen the tower of London's gallows.

How is Nigel still alive and just walking around? Oh wait, he's only 61? Fuck he's going to be shitting in the pool for like 40 more years at this rate.

[–] axEl7fB5@lemmy.cafe 2 points 4 days ago

I mean his name checks out. Farage = far age

[–] ReCursing@feddit.uk 11 points 4 days ago

Can we send violent offenders to Farrage's house? Give them some nice English cricket bats to take as gifts

[–] Lyra_Lycan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Putting knife crime and shoplifting in the same point is abhorrent

[–] Widdershins@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

He really wants to put away the hero who cracked an egg over his head.

[–] Aliktren@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Sadly he will be hugely popular because empathy seems to have been removed by the covid crisis.

Unfortunately I think this policy would have been popular long before then

[–] cammoblammo@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Does Farage want another Australia?

Because the last time the British government tried this shit, we got Australia.

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)
[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

I hear they have very nice hotels there.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 3 points 5 days ago

wonder where he got that "genius" idea.

[–] Lyra_Lycan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Yeah we need a long arse conversation about what a "violent offender" is. An offender of the UK law is obvious enough, although I would prefer offenders of humanist and ethical laws to be the focus. "Violent" in my opinion should only be used to refer to individuals who are a persistent danger to others, despite attempts to rehabilitate. For example, someone who defies state law to protect others in a way that isn't harmful to anyone does not qualify as violent under the humanist law. Neither do individuals whose only claim to state legal scrutiny is their skin pigmentation.

I'm sure they'll treat their prisoners according to UK's laws.

Going back to the old Australia and Georgia penal colonies method again?
