JDivian Vance, vice president of the United States, is a man of great ambition. He is also a man of great unpopularity. These things generally cancel each other out in the life of a politician. But Vance’s impression of his own importance is so solid that this rule no longer applies. And it appears that he may have found his own conservative Sanhedrin, one willing to pay the 30 pieces of silver it would take to sell out the boss, in the wilds of Montana. From the Associated Press:

Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday made a brief trip to Montana, where he spoke to media mogul Rupert Murdoch; his son Lachlan Murdoch, the head of Fox News and News Corp.; and a group of other Fox News executives, according to two people familiar with the trip. Vance met with the group at the Murdoch family ranch in southwest Montana near Dillon, according to the people. They confirmed the visit to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about it. It’s not clear why the vice president addressed the group or what they spoke about.

Fuck..., this is kinda starting to seem a lot like a standard Thiel style coup. Especially combined with the Trump health reports. On the one hand Vance doesn't have the popularity to maintain a voter base, but on the other, if he replaces Trump as president he is going to waste no time getting rid of the last remaining scraps of democracy.

It was funny, then it became grounds to be barred from entry to the US, and ascended to godhood.

Thank you, gravitas_deficiency! Thank you very much, ~~sir~~!

Everyone seems to think it was devious, but it's also possible he went to meet them and then they published out of sheer loathing for the lot of them.

These billionaires hate each other almost as much as we do.

[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I prefer using his full name: Jorkin DePeanus Vance.

[–] runner_g@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago

I thought his middle name was DaCouch

[–] boydster@sh.itjust.works 47 points 3 days ago (4 children)

I said before the inauguration that they'd wait until just over halfway through the term before shuffling Vance in somehow. That allows Vance to have a chance at plausible deniability when the next 2 elections in a row are swung in his favor, thus giving him potentially 10 years to deploy the Curtis Yarvin techno-fascist playbook before even the most devoted acolytes finally accept what's going on. I still think that is the techbro plan they hope to execute on. And I hope we can resist it.

[–] LucidNightmare@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 2 days ago

Thank you for bringing Curtis Yarvin to these discussions. A lot of people don't know about his involvement in everything we are seeing. Let's not forget him when the time comes. :)

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It sure looks like the plan. JD is so unpopular I though they will just hide him in a closet somewhere but it stopped being about popularity very quickly. At this rate the next elections will look like in Russia and JD will get 90% of the votes.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

They have better control and are aiming for 51/49 again. If they keep Congress they know it doesn’t matter how much they “win” by.

Plus it keeps the opposition depressed and distracts the media with “what went wrong?” stories.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I listened to some Curtis Yarvin and some JD Vance, and Vance takes all his talking points. Less eloquently, you can tell he copies Yarvin. Btw from what I listened to Yarvin, he's a complete idiot just twisting himself into preconceived notions of gubmnent bad.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Btw from what I listened to Yarvin

I spent some time on an interview with Yarvin and I found him so completely underwhelming in that interview. I think the only time I've been less impressed with a so-called "intellectual" was when I heard Jordan Peterson being interviewed by Sam Harris some number of years ago.

Curtis Yarvin certainly struck me as someone very, very impressed with himself, but I saw literally no reason why anyone else should be.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Unfortunately I'm not sure his obvious stupidity will be an impediment to his efforts to seize power. Wouldn't be the first time we've been bowled over by a highly motivated idiot.

It seems a bit early for him to do this, but he has to kill his papa sooner or later.

[–] SoupBrick@pawb.social 68 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

"I am sorry, papa. It is time for ze spotlighten to shift to mine self."

That would be a diabolical way to shift the MAGAts to his side. Just spin the story as him saving them from the one who betrayed them.

[–] moakley@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

That would be a diabolical way to shift the MAGAts to his side.

Since this immediately followed that picture, for a second I thought you meant they were going to dress up Vance as a child. You know, since so many Republicans are pedophiles.

Because that would be diabolical.

It's the most consistent play in Russian politics. Since Lennin anyways.

To be fair, I'm not sure anybody expected orange julius to live long enough to even be a candidate this time around, let alone survive an entire term. Dude seriously does not take care of himself

[–] rhvg@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

You know how this works, he has to kill him even if he’s dead.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's more likely that Murdoch reached out to Trump telling him the article was being made, Trump sent Vance to go demand it wasn't, and Vance/Murdoch didn't have a way to stop it or didn't come to an agreement. After all Trump knew about the article before it was published and said he told him not to publish it but said "Murdoch didn't have the ability" to stop it before it came out.

[–] rhvg@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Reasonable guess but still amusing how this looks.

[–] MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world 53 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It's a coup.

Donald Trump should deal with this back-stabber before Vance gets to him first.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 19 points 3 days ago

Et tu, Vance?

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

THiel has vance on a short leash, as long as Theil is satisfied with his male play thing TRUMP isnt touching him

i was basically posting thiels defenestrated BF since its been mentioned. He got defenestrated, when the guy was questioning thiels anti-lgbtq+ policies, and hurting thier communities. im guesisng he doesnt want the boy toy to go the press and fully out him. he did the same to gawker.

[–] MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

We need a way to get your comment read by Trump.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 30 points 2 days ago

I wouldn't be 1% surprise if this is all planned to keep MAGA in power. Trump is probably a lot sicker than they've let on. This, in addition to the knee-deep shit with Epstein, they probably see this as an out.

[–] WatDabney@lemmy.dbzer0.com 37 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Yeah... this is an interesting angle on all of this.

And for context, it's likely worth noting that this followed on the heels of Trump threatening to fire Jerome Powell.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 22 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

It fits. Vance said a while ago the Epstein files need to be released. Theil has said similar, to the effect of needing to burn down the current regime. Granted, Theil has nothing benign in mind for this, his is the way of of sci fi dystopia made real.

The more interesting part of it all is Vance is there due to Don Jr’s influence over his daddy.

[–] nymnympseudonym@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

IIUC Epstein's Island didn't have underage boys, so Theil never paid a visit. I assume he has his own island and tries to keep under the radar

~~So this is two times in five weeks he's done this?~~

Nope! This article sites an AP report from June. This is click bait bullshit.

Do better.

[–] PlantJam@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Sites that cite old articles just to drive traffic or push a narrative really irritate me.

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 3 days ago (2 children)

If JD manages to become President, it'll be two weeks before an intern finds him sobbing in a closet.
