I know this is old news and no one really cares anymore, but the Nazis did the same.
Homeless, mentally ill and people with disabilities where sent to special institutions where they were tortured, experimented on and later murdered.

It's important to recognize too that the death camps were only the final solution to their problem of having too many prisoners. They started with regular concentration camps like the one built in Florida and worked up to the gas chambers later. They're following the Nazi playbook exactly.
I still care, there are dozens of us at least, please don't stop highlighting these kind of connections
...scream into the void, please, some of us need a harmony...
Also worth noting that Nazis ripped this straight off what was happening in America in the same time period, though Americans stopped at forced sterilization.
Because what better solution to the deficit of heath care providers than flooding them with homeless people. I'm sure the hospitals are gonna just fucking love being stuck with the bill for that.
Don't forget this also includes: people struggling with addiction and mental health issues. It's not just the homeless.
It also includes people who are loitering, a sufficiently broad definition that could be maliciously wielded against protestors.
It also stipulates that if hospitals are unavailable, jails will be used.
So it’s literally an order to allow them to throw anyone they want into prison.
...strange things afoot at the circle k...
This is certainly a bogus journey.
...that was far more entertaining...
Just wait until they start saying being LGBTQ+ and autistic are "mental health issues".
First they came for the immigrants, and I did not speak out because I was not an immigrant
Then they came for the homeless, and I did not speak out because I was not homeless.
Then they came for the LGBTQ, and I did not speak out because I was not LGBTQ.
We know how this poem ends.
Being autistic is a mental health issue. Many people suffer great challenges others just need a bit of support.
Where have you been? They have been saying that for a while now
They goimg call Vanlifers homeless and lock them up too?
Are they going to start locking us up because of their made up "trump derangement syndrome"?
You know the answer.
...yes...
How long until this is expanded to transgender people, I wonder?
The second they consider it a mental disorder, which iirc there's already that language somewhere.
I’m so fucking terrified tbh… I went in voluntarily last year and it got upgraded to involuntary after they accused me of lying during my assessment. Was physically assaulted and verbally abused. I got out after a day, but fuck, the nurse was joking about how since a weekend was coming up, they could keep me for five.
Dang, sorry. Good luck out there.
...3, 2,....
Well, it's a good thing our hospitals have the capacity for that, or else they might just throw them into concentration camps or something. /s
I remember this episode of futurama! The human asylum is full ever since being poor was declared a mental illness, so we send them both to the robot one
hes trying anything at this point to get away from the files.
Sec. 3. (a) The Attorney General, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and the Secretary of Transportation shall
(ii) enforce prohibitions on urban camping and loitering […]
(iv) enforce, and where necessary, adopt, standards that address individuals who are a danger to themselves or others and suffer from serious mental illness or substance use disorder, or who are living on the streets and cannot care for themselves, through assisted outpatient treatment or by moving them into treatment centers or other appropriate facilities via civil commitment or other available means, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Sec. 3. (b) The attorney general shall
(iii) assess Federal resources to determine whether they may be directed toward ensuring, to the extent permitted by law, that detainees with serious mental illness are not released into the public because of a lack of forensic bed capacity at appropriate local, State, and Federal jails or hospitals
WaPo missing the fucking point and painting this as anything but what it is. It’s not AND, it’s OR. It’s not mental health facilities, it’s prison.
Here’s who it could impact:
As someone pointed out in a now-deleted post - this comes after Trump has offered Palantir unfettered access to U.S. citizen data. Unless a judge completely kills this, it will be massively abused.
That's close to identical to what the Nazis did.
Anyone with mental health issues that could be deemed dangerous to themselves or others.
Mental health is a very broad category. They already think trans people are crazy or that gay/bi people are deviants.
It is a very broad category!
Unfortunately, RFK has already indicated a desire to put people on antidepressants and adderall into labor camps.
It’s like the worst version of the improv game “yes, and”
I missed that one. Thank you for sharing it. The fact that they have the "wellness" as a spin is the really fucked up part. So..."Wellness camps" is how they're going to sell the same thing like the "los indeseados" in Cuba. At least Fidel was honest in naming the nonsense he unleashed, I guess.
That autistic person database oughtta come in handy once they decide they need to expand the ranks
Trump’s order instructs agencies to prioritize funding to mental health and drug courts — and to not fund “harm reduction” programs that the administrations said facilitate illegal drug use.
Prioritize funding for mental health by not funding one of the few policy strategies that has shown any benefit to society in the last 40+ years of policy making.
I love when surviving reality under the GOP becomes an unsolvable riddle. It's like the other one they just gave us. "We're not making any cuts to Medicaid, but you can't have healthcare, unless you can prove you're working. Also, the economy is fucked, we're automating everything, and there are no jobs. Good luck!"
Hospitals have plenty of places designed to keep people out, but not many that can keep people in. My grandmother broke out of her first dementia ward. Keeping people actually locked up and not in a place where they can simply walk the fuck out the door is insanely expensive because you actually have to feed and provide for them all day, every day and that takes way more manpower than simply PAYING FOR HOUSING.
There's a nice place in a swamp in Florida they just opened up where they're willing to pay for housing.
insanely expensive because you actually have to feed and provide for them all day
Oh honey...
Is this what Qatar was like before the World Cup?
...I thought ronnie raygun had made this a state problem?...
